Iran Did Not Take Part in Sunday's Technical Talks

Iran did not take part in technical talks slated for Sunday due to recent attacks on the country and unfulfilled conditions of the MoU with the United States, a member of the Office of Preservation and Publication of the Works of Iran's Supreme Leader told state TV on Sunday.

No end in sight. A senior military adviser to Iran's supreme leader says discussions about fees for passage through Hormuz would be part of any negotiations with Trump, who has said his administration will not allow tolls on transit through the waterway. The situation is ripe for escalation.

Picking apart the wording of the two comments, Iran said it did not take part in the talks on Sunday, but said nothing about the remainder of the week.

Meanwhile, the US seemed to ignore Sunday's snub, and said that the talks later in the week would proceed as scheduled.

Diplomatic-speak is a wonderful thing ...

Trump is not a negotiator. He is a bargainer. He thinks in terms of using force to make the other side quickly agree to his terms, and nothing more. Not being a strategic thinker, he cannot see past his tactics for situations where they don't work. Iran probably stumbled upon closing the Strait of Hormuz, and has found that tactic to be highly effective in dealing with the dolts sent to the negotiations.

The present stalemate will continue for some time. Iran is selling a little oil, the bombs have mostly stopped falling, they have the US by the cojones, and they have revealed the Great Satans leadership to be impotent and incompetent. And they still have all of the nuclear material created since Trump tore up the Obama deal. Pretty good for a pariah nation ...
