... President Donald Trump took a shifting tone on the midterms on Wednesday, pointing out that even if Republicans lose control of the House, Senate, or both, he would remain the U.S. commander-in-chief. "I'm here whether we win this or not," he told reporters in Arizona and Montana. ..
Wow.

So, basically, he's just in it for himself. Who could have seen that coming?

Certainly not the MAGA idiots who still think he's a patriot giving up a good life as a billionaire to "save" the country and people he loves...

"I'm here whether we win this or not,"
Maybe.
I doubt there will be enough democrats to convict him in the senate and the GOP doesn't have a spine to do what is actually good for the nation.

His health may conveniently deteriorate once he becomes Lame Donald Duck.
Unless Vance becomes Pres, and even if he does, DJT may have to move to his coming Trump Gaza Hotel, Casino, and Pedo Palace to avoid prison.

But.. but... but, MAGA keeps telling everyone Trump doesn't want to be King!

He's telling everyone that he's in this for the Great Grifts.... and he doesn't care what any voters think about that.
This was the last time needed his Base in an Election, so they aren't important, and he doesn't care what almost 70 percent of voters think.
He IS doing his best to pay off Vlad to cheat for him via the internets, and for ICE and the DOJ to rig the election on the ground with intimidation.

The question is, for how long?

The change of tone may be to lower his own expectations, so he doesn't stroke out after the midterms.
Although we may see him disappear for a long sabbatical which his staff will swear is only campaign fatigue.

Daddy Vlad is threatening to release the Helsinki 2018 tape where Trump is giving "Bubba" aka Vlad Putin a BJ..

Possibly.
But if not that, then there seems to be something else that Pres Putin has over Pres Trump.
Stated differently, within the US Pres Trump does not seem to be differential to anyone besides himself.
So, if that is the case, why does Pres Trump seem to bow in servile compliance to Pres Putin?
Why would Pres Trump want to weaken US vs Russia on the world stage in his dealings with Pres Putin?
Why does Pres Trump seem to be intent upon wanting to make the United States look weak vs Russia?

"So, if that is the case, why does Pres Trump seem to bow in servile compliance to Pres Putin?"
Probably because Putin is the brains of the plot to share dominance (1) Putin over Europe and (2) Trump over most of the western hemisphere. Trump has already begun testing the water in Canada, Cuba and has made threats to some South American countries.
I also don't think Putin "has" anything on Trump. I think they have a mutual admiration but only for the purpose of each achieving their goals. Trump is helping Putin's advancement into Eastern Europe right now. When the time comes, Putin will help Trump.
The difference is that Putin is already a dictator and Trump has that pesky Constitution in his way. Which, BTW. he's trying to incrementally destroy
Actually, controlling the economy of the whole world is a long and arduous endeavor. It could take many years. Neither one will live long enough to see it all come to pass. Plus, Putin is working for the good of Russia, . . and Trump is working for the good of himself. As I said, Putin is smart to use Trump and Trump's lack of intelligence and obsession with greed will sooner rather than later cause the GOP and their Unitary Executive plot to self-destruct.

I am in the 40-60 realm of that opinion.
Mostly because I would not want a US President to sell out to a dictatorial enemy.
But your comment does raise some important points to ponder ...

As for that mutual admiration thing I mentioned above. I think that's probably one-sided. I doubt that Putin has any real respect for Trump and is just using that ignorant blob for Putin's own purposes for as long as he can. Putin probably thinks of Trump as a servant rather than a co-equal. However, for the time, it's best to keep up appearances or, as some might say, on the hook.

Whoa, that's quite a blunt opinion.
That aspect aside ...
I wish I could disagree.
Alas, I cannot.

Putin put Dotard in the Whitehouse for one reason, to destroy the United States, which has the added benefit for Putin of beheading NATO. Make no mistake, he put Dotard in the WH, with some last second help from Comey. The Orange CHIMO honestly thinks that because Putin strokes his fragile ego that the Fascist gnome actually likes him, as opposed to using his KGB/FSB background to understand exactly how to manipulate a malignant narcissist. Xi and Kim also have this down, but it helps that Dotard is such a slathering pick me for the fascist dictators club that he'd let them kick him in his tiny marbles in public as Putin did in Helsinki, while selling out the United States Russia and oligarchs in order to make a personal profit.

As for Trump giving aid and comfort to America's enemy (also known as treason), I've come to the conclusion that the irrational drawn-out blockade of the Straits of Hormuz is also having some intentional consequences on the former cash-strapped Russia.
Intentional or not, that seems to be what's happening.

And while we're having this conversation, does anybody believe that Trump has really negotiated an oil deal with Russia?
Or is he just gas-lighting the voters in the lead-up to the midterms.

As for weakening America, of course he's trying to weaken America.
A weakened population, subservient and starving for basic substance is much easier for an authoritarian dictator to control.
It's not just a goal, it's a necessity.

Nor is it a coincidence that the high price of fertilizer is bankrupting farmers and the price of diesel fuel is driving trucking companies out of business.

Re weakening America
And that 300,000 metric tons of oil that is supposed to be on its way from Russia is equal to only 2.25 million barrels, most (if not all) of which will be refined for use by the military.
Again, just another dog whistle for deserting voters to return to the Republican Party
