Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

USA TODAY reporter Zac Anderson interviews Jeff Asher, a crime data analyst. Asher says he is careful not to see a trend in the data until it is very clear. Asher now says there is no denying it, America's crime rate is dropping.

"Murder plummeted in the United States in 2023, likely at one of the fastest rates of decline ever recorded," Asher wrote online. The decrease in murders is "potentially historically large," Asher told USA TODAY, and it's not just killings that are declining. Preliminary 2023 FBI data "paint the picture" of a big decrease in overall crime, he wrote.

"Aggressive crime rhetoric has been a staple of GOP politics going back decades, but Trump's comments clash with the reality laid out in FBI and other reports of a nation mending after a troubled period."

The bigger the lie, the better Republicans like it.

They are the Stormy Daniels of politics.

Well, duh! Now that Trump has been taken off the streets of course the crime rate is dropping. You don't get 91 felony indictments by being a law abiding citizen.

Biden and the Dems will use this news on the campaign trail to argue that the 2022 Safer Communities Act which passed the Senate with 15 GOP votes and the House with 10 GOP votes is working and is an example of why Democratic majorities are better suited for governing the nation than Republicans who struggle to even agree on a leader of their caucus.

Trump and the clickbait faction of the GOP will claim the numbers are false and make up lies to scare voters.
If I were the GOP I would lean into this and claim that the decline is due to the GOP's 2nd amendment support.

Bad data from the FBI mislead about crime

Part of the problem is how police departments report offenses to the FBI. The FBI asked, then demanded, that law enforcement agencies "transition" away from the system they used for decades to a new, more detailed but onerous one. The 2021 mandate to use NIBRS to submit crime data proved a disaster as overstretched departments, especially in large cities, failed to reach compliance and thus did not submit data.

Why do US citizens trust federal government reports? Its clearly to support a narrative depending upon who is President, nothing more, nothing less.

You don't have to be a Trump supporter to realize when data is made up, and other data isn't reported to correctly believe the numbers are "FALSE".

"If it's bad, I just say it's fake," declared former president at the Conservative Political Action Conference Sunday

I'm not sure that data is believable. Crime reporting is not reliable across cities and states. F Trump.

Of COURSE, ONEIQIRONY believes the data is false.
It's only true when Trump reports it, right?

How I 'don't pick a leader'...

Pick a leader only concerned with himself.

GQP? Anything you'd like to add?

It's not unusual for crime to drop when people have jobs.

Thank you President Biden.
