Tulsi Gabbard Endorses Trump for President

Former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (Hawaii), who left the Democratic Party in 2022, announced Monday she was endorsing former President Trump in November's election. Gabbard, who has become a regular presence in conservative media, made the announcement during a National Guard Association gathering in Michigan where Trump was also speaking.

When Trump blathers on and on at his Qlan rallies and tells his minions he is going "to slash prices dramatically on day 1" ... . how will he do that without "price controls"?

I guess since it's his one and only day to be a dictator he can pull it off by fiat.

@#24 ... Didn't the guy who stood in for Trump in Clinton's 2016 debate prep end up supporting him? ...

Who was "the guy" your comment refers to?

Here's what I found...

I Played Trump in Hillary Clinton's 2016 Debate Prep. (2019)
www.politico.com

... My perspective on this is unique: I was assigned the role of playing Trump during Hillary Clinton's general election debate prep in 2016. His stand-in. Her sparring partner. The ball machine. Over 17 years of working for her, I've argued with and annoyed Hillary plenty. But this time, I was supposed to. And without question, she did the debates right. They were her most successful three days between the high of accepting the nomination and the low of Election Day. ...

That was written by, "Philippe Reines is a former Deputy Assistant Secretary of State & Senior Advisor to Hillary Clinton."

OK, to your point... ... end up supporting him? ...

I find this...

Philippe Reines
en.wikipedia.org

...
2016

In the debate preparations for Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election, Reines stood in for Donald Trump.[23] CBS commented that Reines is "known for his bullish, combative personality"traits that often mirror Trump's personal debate style".

2024

Similar to his role in 2016, Reines assisted Kamala Harris with her debate preparations.[24]
...

So, I'll say at this point, you need to be a bit more specific.

It came across as....sincere. As a vet she has been consistently anti-war and made a strong case endorsing Trump based on his record.

In the span of a couple of days - RFK Jr and Gabbard. Both have some appeal among independents. I don't know how this will ultimately play out, but endorsements from both certainly favors Trump. And both are on the heels of the convention.

Unless you have actual evidence, that's a bit far-fetched, like her own claims about being put on a watch list by Harris and Biden as political retribution. I'm sure the Kremlin probably sees her as a useful idiot, though, just like Tucker Carlson.

It seems clear she feels victimized and is motivated by revenge against those she feels wronged her, even though it undermines everything she claims to stand for.

" Where in the past would you want to have invoked the first amendment to punish people up for that?"

As soon as they publish after being told to take it down, or retract it.

That said, why shouldn't they be held as liable as a doctor giving fatal advice? More people died in New Mexico from ivermectin poisoning than all the Alec Baldwin movies, combined.

Does free speech include your right to claim doctors have been misleading everyone about megadoses of horse paste?

How about after the government has seen thousands of ivermectin deaths?

Is it censorship if they do, and shirking their constitutional duties if they don't?!?

#57 | Posted by Danforth at 2024-08-28 03:08 PM

#56 | POSTED BY EBERLY

Show us where the 1st amendment was "invoked" to "punish" people in the present and maybe I can show you correlations to the past.

Though it's not really fair to compare the present to the past as medical advances and our understanding of causes of diseases and pandemics has changed tremendously.

But I can show you that human nature has not changed that much at all.

#58 | Posted by donnerboy at 2024-08-28 03:19 PM

-Does free speech include your right to claim doctors have been misleading everyone about megadoses of horse paste?

I don't know but I suspect the answer is yes. If I were a doctor causing that kind of harm them I would be in trouble but I doubt the 1st amendment has anything to do with what trouble I'm in.

But if I'm Joe Blow on the internet blabbing about that which I know nothing about? Again....I think the answer is yes......my free speech protection includes protection even when I'm misleading people.

#59 | POSTED BY EBERLY

Actually no it doesn't. Of course it depends on the situation.

Thats why you can't yell "fire!" in a theater if there is no fire.

Sometimes you could yell 'fire' in a crowded theater without facing punishment if the theater was actually on fire. Or the theater was empty. Or you may "reasonably" believe that the theater is on fire.

But if you were doing it maliciously or even as a blow hard know nothing you are not protected.

And especially if someone got hurt following your advice you may be legally liable and the 1st amendment will not protect you.

#61 | Posted by donnerboy at 2024-08-28 05:09 PM

"who is represented when you say "their"?"

The folks responsible for The General Welfare.

Pretty obvious, in context.

#62 | Posted by Danforth at 2024-08-28 05:16 PM

-Thats why you can't yell "fire!" in a theater if there is no fire.

Fair point. If my misleading information causes harm.....I can be subject to some sort of criminal charge, correct?

Your example was one born out of intentionally causing a public panic.

This whole ivermectin -------- is just a subset of all kinds of misinformation on the internet all day every day which is probably why those who are guilty of doing this have gone without any criminal prosecution.

#63 | Posted by eberly at 2024-08-28 05:19 PM

-The folks responsible for The General Welfare.

The Federal government? Local government? The Secret Service, FBI, the Texas Rangers?

#64 | Posted by eberly at 2024-08-28 05:21 PM

"my free speech protection includes protection even when I'm misleading people."

Good God, I hope it doesn't. But I'm not talking about just "misleading"; I'm talking about PIMPING FATAL ACTIONS AS CURES.

Free speech? Or time for a little General Welfare? The Bellringers of the world don't believe it EVER gets to the GW part.

#65 | Posted by Danforth at 2024-08-28 05:23 PM

"The Federal government? Local government? The Secret Service, FBI, the Texas Rangers?"

Hell, ANYBODY, hopefully. But at this point we're talking the Feds and FaceBook.

Does it matter WHAT was asked by the FBI, or is just the asking censorship?

I believe the lynchpin is CONTENT. Was it merely disagreement? Then the government is WRONG. Was it medical malinformation? If so, I believe the government is duty-bound to protect the general welfare.

More specifically, "Don't take the vaccine" is one thing; "You can't overdose on horse paste" is another, especially when the government is seeing a 1000% spike in ivermectin poisoning cases

Sorry, but I just can't get behind "it's my right to indirectly kill others with my stupidity" concept.

#66 | Posted by Danforth at 2024-08-28 05:31 PM

#63 | POSTED BY EBERLY

Yes. It wasn't just ivermectin though was it?

It was a concerted effort to undermine public health officials.

It was more like there WAS a fire (a global pandemic) and maga blow hards were yelling "everything was fine!" Nothing to see here!

It's only 15 cases soon to be zero! The vaccines and masks don't work so don't bother with them. Take this horse paste I invested in!

All while 3,000 Americans were dying every day in that "fire" and hospitals and morgues were being overwhelmed.

#67 | Posted by donnerboy at 2024-08-28 05:32 PM

I'm not arguing here.....I'm not trying to tell anyone how the 1st amendment works or that people should get a pass for "pimping fatal actions as cures".

I think they should face criminal prosecution because of the malicious nature of what they are doing.

I'm just saying the law has protected people for being wrong for centuries. Or maybe it wasn't really the law but rather the unwillingness of the govt to pursue such folks.

#68 | Posted by eberly at 2024-08-28 05:33 PM

"This whole ivermectin -------- is just a subset of all kinds of misinformation"

STOP CALLING IT MISINFORMATION. I'm not talking about misinformation, I'm talking about MALINFORMATION.

Do you know the difference? YES YOU DO.

"maybe it wasn't really the law but rather the unwillingness of the govt to pursue such folks."

All the more reason for government to step into the Social Media world, or hold the gatekeepers responsible. Suddenly "Mr. HorsePaste" doesn't have a couple yokels from the General Store trying his "cure", he's got tens of thousands.

A different world, requires different solutions.

You will need to be more specific than that.

You can be criminally prosecuted for violating the 1st Amendment.

Speech that is considered obscene, fraudulent, or violates intellectual property law may also be subject to criminal prosecution.

I would think saying things that are not true and especially if it harms others would also be considered fraud.
