At least five people have been killed and 30 others injured in shootings across Chicago over Labor Day weekend, including a drive-by attack that left seven victims wounded late Saturday night, according to police. The violent holiday weekend came as President Donald Trump renewed threats to send federal agents and National Guard troops to Chicago over the objections of Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson. Trump on Saturday sent a warning to the Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker in a post on his social media platform, referencing recent crime in Chicago and saying Pritzker "better straighten it out, FAST, or we're coming!" Illinois Gov. Pritzker, a Democrat, responded in a news conference a week ago to an earlier Trump threat to "straighten out Chicago, just like we did D.C.," by saying that the president's plan was "unprecedented and unwarranted. It is illegal, it is unconstitutional, it is un-American."

It is typical MAGA mentality, imo.
Focusing and highlighting the symptom, instead of focusing and trying to resolve the cause.
For example, why did the Trump admin cut funding for crime prevention in Chicago?
Trump administration slashed federal funding for gun violence prevention (July 2025)

... The Trump administration has terminated more than half of all federal funding for gun violence prevention programs in the U.S., cutting $158 million in grants that had been directed to groups in cities like New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington, DC, and Baltimore.
Of the 145 community violence intervention (CVI) grants totaling more than $300 million awarded through the U.S. Department of Justice, 69 grants were abruptly terminated

Sort of, but my take is, its not so simple.
Ranking in violent crime, top of the list is the worst:
The issue with rankings is its always per 100,000 or some statistic. There really is a high density of crime and shootings in particular Chicago areas.

Why is Trump picking on Chicago?
Because of the percentages of African Americans, in these towns.
To any of these :
St. Louis, MO 69.4
Baltimore, MD 51.1
New Orleans, LA 40.6
Detroit, MI 39.7
Cleveland, OH 33.7
You'd call him a racist if he went to a city like above. The point of Newsom, calling out of primarily African American crime areas is a racist dog whistle. Hoping racist point this fact out.
That fact:
Black (males) Americans have high homicide rates, in fact its over half of all homicides, and this doesn't include the high percentage of unsolved homicides.
So go figure Trump is playing it safe, going after a homicides in a high population with a low percentage of Blacks. To avoid being called a racist.
Everyone knows where the violent crime is, no one wants to point it out. In fact thats why its gotten so bad in these neighborhoods.
Crime keeps people in poverty, black people are in poverty because Democrats seem to look the other way when there is PoC crime. Thus perpetuating black poverty. While Republicans are too chicken about being called racist.
Black people deserve peace. Lowering crime in their neighborhoods would be the first step to lift black people out of poverty.
