More than a few Republicans credit divine intervention for Trump's survival. But a particular group of hard-line, evangelical Christians has gone even further, seeing the episode itself as a part of modern prophecy. Right-wing Christianity is presently experiencing mass radicalization around Trump ...

The author writes:

Whether you believe in modern-day prophecy or not, the messianic aura and religious attachments to Trump that these hyper-partisan prophecies foster is a dagger pointed at the heart of American democracy. Voters aren't supposed to elect messiahs; we're supposed to elect chief executives and commanders in chief, whose job it is to do the will of the people. Prophecies, divine anointings and heavenly missions are garments fit for bedecking dictators, authoritarians and cult leaders, not the humble robes of democratic servants of the people.

We have already sampled on Jan. 6 the havoc that radicalized Christian prophecy believers can wreak. The more that MAGA Christians embellish Trump with messianic properties and make him an instrument of divine wrath on God's enemies, the more of a menace they and he pose to democracy.

If Trump wins, he might claim " to shouts of acclamation from his devotees " a divine mandate to remake America. If he loses, these prophecies may once again become rationalizations for attacking the "demonic" institutions that dare defy God's anointed.

"DR. BEN SHAW:

Quick answer, Hebrews 1:1-2:

"Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets. But in these last days, he has spoken to us by his Son whom he appointed the heir of all things through whom also he created the world."

The point being that there was a time when prophets were necessary; God sent men from Him to speak His word to His people, to warn them against sins and transgressions, and to direct them in the way of God.

But that time has passed.

The final revelation has come to us in Jesus Christ. And we find that recorded for us then in the New Testament, which completes the Scriptures. And therefore, we don't need prophets today because we have the Scriptures."

These Trump "Christians" haven't Clue #1. I swear, I don't think any of them have ever opened a bible.

Hence "the ostentatious Christianity on display on Jan. 6."

When Trump lost the 2020 election and refused to concede, almost all of these Trump-aligned prophets likewise refused to recant their prophecies, proclaiming that God would have to miraculously intervene to reinstate Trump ... .[T]he fervor around these prophecies was a major mobilizing force for what became the Capitol insurrection.

Indeed, I have tracked more than 60 independent charismatic church leaders ... and a number of other celebrity prophets, who were present in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 6, 2021. A central reason there were so many Christian symbols, Christian Bible citations, Christian songs and Christian preachers there that day was because they felt it was their responsibility to bring to fruition the myriad Trump prophecies.

So, Doc, I will say this... the 'End Times' prophecies, some written around 800 BC and more in the first century BCE, so OT and NT, do describe what Paul called, 'the man of sin'.

Revelations, the end of the story in the NT, is filled with metaphor and difficult to understand predictions.

But the early writing, and some straightforward verses in the NT, basically are just describing the character and personality of one man, and what his actions will be; how to recognize him.

When I first saw literally dozens of these verses simply put together and connected to a modern day figure, I could only say that if he's not the anti-Christ described, then he is a carbon copy (so to speak, lol).... a horrible excuse for a human being, the 'man of sin'.

Any of them who didn't put in writing that Biden would be dropping out of the race and Harris would be replacing him down to the day it was going to happen can step forward so that we can burn them at the stake.

"Kansas, Missouri clergy argue rise of white Christian nationalism poses threat to democracy

Advocates of reconciliation, unity gather at fourth of seven events in KC metro

The Rev. Bobby Love of Second Baptist Church endorsed a campaign Thursday to awaken Kansans to the threat of white Christian nationalism and press for wider appreciation of how democracy could be damaged by a movement intent on undermining inclusive communities.

"Together we must reject the notion of placing one race above the other," Love said.

"We must reject the notion of intolerance. We must reject the notion of violence under the banner of Christianity."

I have read the whole Bible.

It's filled with metaphors and difficult to understand predictions.

But moreso prophetic books like Daniel, Isaiah, and Revelations, wouldn't you agree?

It's a bit like giving a certain amount of autonomy to robots; there's no free will if people are controlled in all aspects of life.

No room to make choices, to choose good or evil.

Hopefully we don't make the mistake of having free will with AI.

Fair enough.

Some "books" (which are not really books at all) were much worse than others.

My favorite "book" was always the book of Psalms.

Bill Maher had a good take on this in his last episode:

After the shooting, Rep. Mike Collins (R-Ga.) posted on social media that "God spared Ronald Reagan for a reason" and "God spared Donald Trump for a reason" because "God doesn't miss."

Maher questioned the post, saying "really? Tell that to John Lennon, Lincoln, JFK, RFK and Martin Luther King."

"Look, the ----- who shot at Trump was cowardly, unpatriotic, selfish, vile and weak and he should rot in hell," Maher continued. "But thinking that God protects your heroes but not mine, that's not cool either."

BTW- Bill Maher predicted over and over that Biden stepping aside was the only way Democrats could beat Trump.

Psalm 51:17

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

I like the psalms because they are like stories and poetries of the Sufi mystics that try to say things that are very difficult to put into words because, well, we don't have the words.

There is something dangerously wrong with our society that these Trump prophets have so much sway over a large swath of MAGA voters and the Republican party.

When your brain is ruined by christian nonsense from childhood, you grow into an adult that would believe trump is a patriotic successful businessman and democrats drink baby blood.

Donnerboy, suppose you had the power to kill people by thinking about them dying...quick? painless?...how you work the power is really a test, which you probably will fail. Thank you for playing, and be sure to tell your friends!

Thanks for the offer. I would choose not to play that game. In fact when given the power to kill I turned it down and chose a different path.

And any God that would make me play that game is not a God I would respect.

Life is too precious and shorter than you think. Death is the normal state of existence.

Have a wonderful day in your neighborhood. While you still can.

America is full of Derps.
You can scarcely avoid them walking
down the sidewalk. There will
always be religious hucksters.
And there will always be those stupid
enough to follow them.

Most people prefer fantasy over reality in
life. Serves as a mental pillow to reality.
