As a candidate, Donald Trump campaigned"and won"this year on the promise he would lower prices for Americans angry after the COVID pandemic's inflation brought steep price increases, but now he's backtracking, saying he's not sure he will actually be able to fulfill those vows. Outrage at Trump, and the people who voted for him based on that pledge, was palpable on Thursday.

He's finally said something honest. Almost like he understands that once inflation devalues the dollar, and prices rise because it takes more of those devalued dollars to equal the previous cost. If so, did he just realize this basic truth? If so, was he deliberately lying? Or was he, a graduate of Wharton, that ignorant on basic economics?

There is no answer that makes him look good.

My view is that he has finally realized that he cannot just tell inflation to be calm and lower itself.

For starters, that comment presumes Pres-elect Trump understands economics.

In my view, he does not.
