President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Monday to designate drug cartels and foreign criminal groups as terrorist organizations. The order singled out Mexican drug cartels and Latin American criminal gangs such as the Venezuelan Tren de Aragua and the Salvadoran Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) that, "threaten the safety of the American people, the security of the United States and the stability of the international order in the Western Hemisphere."

OnSeptember 29, the National School Boards Association (NSBA) sent a letter to the President asking for federal assistance to stop threats and acts of violence against public schoolchildren, public school board members, and other public school district officials. In the days since, there has been some misinformation about what is"and what is not"in the letter, as well as questions about why NSBA sent the letter. NSBA is providing this Frequently Asked Questions document to help state association members address members' concerns, correct misconceptions, and more fully explain NSBA's position.

Does anyone disagree that these groups should be designated as terrorist groups?

#15 | Posted by BellRinger

I disagree.

They are criminal organizations and should be pursued via criminal justice actions.

Designating them terrorists is incredibly stupid and dangerous.

Consider how we handle other terrorist organizations, regularly bombing Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia, Syria, Iraq...

We should NOT be bombing a dozen Central and South American countries.

Considering them terrorist organizations opens up a whole slew of financial instruments that while tempting create far more problems then they solve.

These cartels are intertwined with many of the governments and international corporations. Are we going to be sanctioning the presidents of a half dozen countries?

How will that further destabilize these countries driving them further into narco syndication and driving immigration to our country.

It is a stupid and immoral choice

Not surprising the immoral and stupid jeff supports it.

WRT the federal investigation of the domestic terrorism around educators I will offer the following facts:

The instigation of the request for federal help was threatening emails, phone calls, and letters received by public elected officials.

It is in the center of the DoJ's remit to investigate threats against public officials that emanate through the mail, across phone and through the internet.

The people speaking up in meetings had zero to do with the investigation.

Look at it this way. Had a School Board member or two been killed by one of those sending the threatening letters and the FBI had not been investigating them would that not have been an outrage?

BTW this has been explained to jeff multiple times.

this is why he is a liar. This is why he is a despicable human being.

Don't broad brush me. I never condone police violence against peaceful protests.

A comparatively low level of prosecutions is why. Also, Kamala Harris stumped for a bail fund for rioters who got arrested and you cheered that on.

Protestor Mark Houck got into a minor altercation with a man who was verbally abusing his son. The man got pushed to the ground and went to local police to file an assault charge and the police decided not to. So the FBI conducted a pre-dawn guns drawn raid at his house and arrested him and charged him with violating the FACE act and the DOJ sought a 10 year prison sentence even though he wasn't blocking the entrance of an abortion facility. He was acquitted but the process is the punishment and you cheered it on. Danforth probably did too.
