Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Monday, February 23, 2026

"Since the State of the Union address is next Tuesday, let's get rid of the State of the Union address before Tuesday. And here's why. Nothing has misled the American people to the warped belief that the president can act like a king more than this stupid, boring, performative after-dinner speech from hell where the Sergeant-at-Arms announces the president like he's a king," Maher said.

Can't say I disagree.

I don't always agree will Maher. But After Tuesday and we witness another one of Trumpy's firehouse of lies and his incoherent stream of consciousness ramblings everyone else will probably agree with him, too.

It perhaps should be changed to the State of Trump's Unfitness.

Which will surely be on full display.

Prolly enough for yet another MAGA to try to shoot him.

I do understand that some MAGA will be in attendance.

Bill Maher gets a lot of things wrong. On this he happens to be correct. Early on SOTU was simply a written report submitted to Congress. Now it's a dog and pony show.

I dunno, making the president have to do a speech to the American people seems like a good idea.

No wonder Trump is excited.

Is Trump the dog or the pony and,

Who's on top?

Still needed but perhaps not from this POTUS.

My bet.

First lie < 4 min in, total lies > 200 for the night
Grievance
Non presidential involvements > 5

My book.

"First lie < 4 min in"

That's an easy wager.

I'm betting < 4 sentences in.

It's constitutionally mandated and Bill Maher is a f'ing moron.

No one wants to listen to Shitler give speech but even fewer want to let him and his thugs rewrite the parts of the constitution they don't like.

You haven't heard enough crap from the Lyin King already? I know I have. I doubt I will even watch it. I'll wait for the late night comedy outtakes.

I bet you know what the state of our union is without him uttering one more nonsensical word.

And will he really tell you anything you can trust?

Not likely.

No one likes attending a meeting that could have just been an email.

While a state of the union update to Congress is required from "time to time", it's not required to be annual or delivered in person. Thomas Jefferson, discontinued the practice of giving an in-person address because he felt such style of address was best left behind to the monarchies in Europe. In a 1796 letter to a friend in Paris, he shared his thoughts on the Federalist Party of Adams which he called an "Anglican, monarchical, and aristocratical party". He said the speech was an attempt to distract from the content. He called the it a "pompous cavalcade to the state house on the meeting of Congress, the formal speech from the throne."
