She was a groundbreaker for her gender, her generation, and her race at a time when it wasn't easy to do any one of those things.

RIP

God gets all the great musicians for his choir eventually.

Sure Jan. The 70s were just awful for black musicians and black women especially. Just like the 90s were a tough time to be a rapper.

Her work with Donny Hathaway was, IMO, stunning. She brought to a wider audience a soul singer without parallel. My faves from her are "Where is the Love?" or her excellent "The First Time Ever I saw Your Face". RIP...

She was a DEI hire.

She got a Kennedy Center Honor back when the Center was woke. Elon will probably rescind it.

Careful! You are approaching the border of WOKE Land. Better back it up!

You keep going down that road and you will suddenly realize that it's been a tough time to be black in America for over 250 years.

And then you might be thinking maybe we oughta give them a hand up for all the pain and suffering they and their ancestors have had to endure from America.

And then it will be too late. You will have become a caring sensitive person and will have become Woke!

Then you will be in trouble. Trumpy trouble.
