Newsom: In 2023, Californians contributed $83.1 billion more to the federal government than we received back.
And for your viewers: that other state"Texas"took $71.1 billion more than it contributed to the federal government. California: $83 billion, contributor. Texas: taker.

Even with all the taxation, it still can't pay its own bills.

Blah blah blah.
Goatblob always touted the impending doom of California. You just look like a lazy moron, which is appropriate.

@other98
So the "apocalyptic hellscape" of California kicked in $83 billion MORE to the federal government than it got back, while the "freedom-loving superstate" of Texas took a whopping $89 billion in federal funds. Funny how that works.

en.wikipedia.org
as with most economic and political issues, we wind up measuring things by "per capita"
So let's do that here.....attached above is how GDP is ranked per state. California is still very high..but not #1 per capita.
but I'm rooting for California to continue to thrive. It's good for everyone.

I'm not sure how relevant that is as a metric. Look at Canada. Ontario arguably has the highest GDP but per capita it fits in 8th place. NWT and Nunavut are #1 and #2 and there's pretty much nothing there.

So Washington, DC, which produces basically nothing, is the most productive state/territory? And by a long shot?

Not a good thing, all in all. Global warming is about to kill a lot of people and its acceleration is because of greed and the growth of populations and the markets. Such is life, we who are alive today are watching a stupid culture do astoundingly stupid things, and that is that.

California sucks. Especially the north coast.
Don't come up here. There is just a bunch of old redwoods and empty beaches that stretch for miles.
And the air is ridiculously clean and fresh.
And the weather is super crazy. Seems like if you don't like the weather here you can just drive 30 miles and it's all different!
Who can live like that?

Better save it for your states budget.
California does not need it. Our budget is balanced this year.

Well sure, if they don't count underfunding their pension plans.
