Vladimir Putin Fires Commander-in-Chief of Russian Ground Forces

General Oleg Selyukov was fired by presidential decree on 15 May. He had been in this position since 2014 and commanded the Victory Parade on Red Square on 9 May. The Russian despot moved Selyukov to be deputy secretary of the Russian Security Council under Sergey Shoigu.

Putin refused to meet Ukrainian President Volodomir Zelensky in Istanbul this week, so that whole affair was a monumental waste of time and money. But it gave the diplomats the opportunity to enjoy delicious Turkish cuisine and hospitality while jabber-jawing at taxpayer expense.

Since Russia's brutal invasion of Ukraine, they have lost ~970,590 military personnel (plus 1,220 over the last 24 hours), 372 aircraft, 337 helicopters, and 10,820 tanks.

An international arrest warrant issued by the ICC for war crimes remains active for Vladimir Putin. An indictment is merely an accusation. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

DHS Requests 20,000 National Guard Troops to Help With Mass Deportations

What role National Guard soldiers would take in the immigration crackdown in unknown: a) Rounding up and arresting people for deportation; b) Prisoner transport; c) or Facility security. Also unclear is whether state governors would have to approve the plan or if Dotard Trumpf would move to federalize the National Guard to take control of its troops. The last time the US government did so was in 1992 during the Los Angeles riots, sparked by the brutal racist police beating of Rodney King.

Hitler, historians know, never gave a speech at the Eiffel Tower. Der Fuhrer visited Paris shortly after the fall of the city, when the Germans occupied France in June 1940. He toured several landmarks, including the Eiffel Tower, but he did not deliver a public speech there. Those sneaky French actually cut the Eiffel Tower's elevator cables, forcing Hitler to walk to the top, but he reportedly declined. The German military governor also did not destroy French landmarks as ordered after Der Fuhrer returned to Berlin.

Russia Imprisons Australian Volunteer to 13 Years Prison

Oscar Jenkins (33) was sentenced to 13 years in a maximum-security prison for fighting alongside Ukrainian forces, state prosecutors in the Russian-controlled parts of eastern Ukraine said. Jenkins was found guilty by a court in Luhansk of participating in an armed conflict as a mercenary. He had fought for Ukraine against Russia from Mar-Dec 2024. Australian FM Penny Wong said that her government was "appalled" by the sentencing, calling it a "sham trial" and urged Russia to treat Jenkins in accordance with international humanitarian law. Australia has repeatedly called for the release of Jenkins, who is originally from Melbourne, since he was captured by Russian forces in December.
