Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Sarah Cope doesn't see her mother "as a parasite," but that's what she heard MAGA billionaire Elon Musk call her. On 12 Feb, Musk reposted on social media a meme of a smiling woman with the caption: "Watching Trump slash federal programs knowing it doesn't affect you because you're not a member of the Parasite Class." Cope's mother, Linda Davis, spent most of her life working in a factory to take care of her three children and her ailing husband, who died when Cope, their youngest, was 15. When Davis was 90 and had experienced ten years with dementia, her children determined that she needed a skilled nursing facility to care for her. Medicare wouldn't cover the costs. Davis only receives $150 from a pension, and her Social Security check is nowhere near the $12,000-a-month cost to move into her nursing home in Harnett County, where she lived most of her life. That's why the Davis siblings turned to Medicaid.

More than 260,000 people in North Carolina are at risk of losing their Medicaid coverage due to a provision in the House Republicans' 'One Big Beautiful Bill Act.' The Department of Education is beginning to collect on delinquent student loans, and SNAP benefits and funding for homeless shelters are being cut. More people will be working two jobs to make ends meet and will be forced to caretake for their elderly parents that need 24/7 supervision like Linda Davis. The GOP and the Trumpf junta is quickly establishing a cruel, draconian, caste system of the superrich ruling over the superpoor while they insouciantly enrich themselves with crypto-currency schemes, insider trading, and no-bid contracts for their network of oligarchs.

Make Americans Die Again should be the GOP's slogan for the midterms.

Can't have our tax dollars going to helping people when the rich are consuming it all.

These are the values the GOP has stood for my entire life.
I'm not sure why so many poor people think it's a good deal for them.
Perhaps Red State America will finally enter the "Finding Out" phase of what Republican governance actually means for them.

Republicans hate Black Americans and minorities so much, they'd rather die than have any of their tax dollars going to help the poor and underprivileged, in case any of them aren't white.

It's as easy as that.

Why can't we have universal healthcare?

Non whites could benefit.

That's it.

Europe established their system of government when they were completely white nations.

They never expected black and brown people to benefit.

I'm sure their conservative population hates it.

#11 People over 65 are generally not eligible for coverage through the Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplace, as Medicare is the primary health insurance option for this age group.

"Stupid poor people! Argh! They're all parasites! Why do they want to collect their benefits now after all the years they contributed to FICA? Blargh!"

A big question is, why DOES it cost $12,000 per year to get a bed in a tiny room in a nursing home. Pretty much every middle class person who lives beyond their ability to care for themselves will find themselves having to turn to Medicaid. First you must spend down all your assets, then the facility will assess your total income from all sources, and then take almost every penny of it for your substandard care. You will be left with a tiny stipend for personal needs.

I don't claim to be an expert on this matter, but I have watched it unfold for many elderly family members

Try $12,000 a month.

If you don't know why you aren't paying attention.

It's because we do health care for profit.

For my stay it cost around 5 to 6 grand a month to be in a nursing home. It's painfully obvious that it costs more than it should,

My mistake, I meant $12000 per month, not year. My FIL paid $3400/mo almost 20 years ago. Once his assets were depleted and Medicaid took over, they let him keep $35/month and took the rest of his pension and social security payments.

It's outrageous how much it cost to live in a nursing home. Oh and the tiny amount they let us have per month is down right an insult. It's sad to say the least.

It's not bad yet. The more people refuse to contribute, the worse it's going to get.
