Supreme Court justices have sharply questioned President Donald Trump's sweeping tariffs in a case with wide implications for his agenda and the global economy.

Chief Justice John Roberts, and Justices Amy Coney Barrett and Neil Gorsuch " three conservatives " sounded sceptical of the government's justification for the import duties.

The court's three liberal justices also expressed skepticism about whether federal law " and the US Constitution " give the president authority to unilaterally set tariff levels on foreign imports.

"Sauer urged them to understand tariffs as a natural extension of other powers granted to the president under the law rather than a tax. "I can't say it enough - it is a regulatory tariff, not a tax," he said.

But that appeared to be a stumbling block for many of the justices.

"You want to say that tariffs are not taxes but that's exactly what they are," Justice Sonia Sotomayor said."

"President Donald Trump said Tuesday the Supreme Court case on his worldwide tariffs is "LIFE OR DEATH" for the U.S."

Some critics of Trump's tariffs, which he set on nearly every country in April, have said that Americans have received the brunt of the import taxes' impacts.

Attorneys for Learning Resources, an educational toy company that has taken exception to the tariffs, and Trump argued Wednesday about whether the president is allowed to use the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to set tariffs.

The 1977 law allows the president to regulate international trade to deal with "unusual" and "extraordinary" threats after declaring a national emergency."

Here's the Prequal from yesterday:

"The Supreme Court Ruling That Could Upend Trump's Presidency

The court will hear arguments Wednesday in a challenge to the president's tariffs. Will the conservative justices once again twist themselves in knots to give him what he wants?"

excerpt
"That is a dubious assessment at best. Tariffs, contrary to the administration's messaging, are not levied on foreign producers or exporters.

They are instead paid by American businesses and individuals: either directly if they purchase something from overseas that is shipped to the United States, or indirectly if companies that import foreign goods raise their prices to accommodate the higher costs that tariffs inevitably produce.

The Treasury may be richer from the tariff regime, but Americans themselves are not."

Never mind the tariffs, SCOTUS. Dummkopf Trumpf wants to slowly irradiate the American population. Is anybody on the planet other than your humble Shakespearean Trotskyite felinophile on drudge.com, and the preeminent researchers at the Bulletin of American Scientists, aware of this? drudge.com

My questions at this point ...

How long will it be before SCOTUS releases its opinion and ruling? Will we wait until June so that SCOTUS can delay a ruling regarding Pres Trump again?

Will SCOTUS requite the tariffs to be refunded? The whimsical nature of Pres trump's tariffs might make that a rather difficult task.
