But that appeared to be a stumbling block for many of the justices.

Some critics of Trump's tariffs, which he set on nearly every country in April, have said that Americans have received the brunt of the import taxes' impacts.

Attorneys for Learning Resources, an educational toy company that has taken exception to the tariffs, and Trump argued Wednesday about whether the president is allowed to use the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to set tariffs.

The 1977 law allows the president to regulate international trade to deal with "unusual" and "extraordinary" threats after declaring a national emergency."
