J. D. Vance has "clearly made the calculation that anti-Semites are part of the Republican Party's base, and he can't afford to shunt them to the side as he plots his own presidential bid," Franklin Foer argues. theatln.tc/aaUENxUw

The vice president welcomes anti-Semites into the Republican coalition.

On Sunday, J. D. Vance was presented with the simplest moral test: denounce commentators who traffic in medieval blood libels, who deny the Holocaust, and who endlessly harp on evil Jewish cabals.

The test was forced on the vice president. By the time he addressed the Turning Point USA conference this past weekend, it had turned into a referendum on latter-day Father Coughlins who have acquired substantial and growing audiences on the right. Among them is Candace Owens, whose YouTube channel has 5.7 million followers. She argues that there is a powerful, secret sect within Judaism practicing pedophilia. Meanwhile, Tucker Carlson, who has 16.8 million followers on X, has shared his microphone with an unabashed fan of Adolf Hitler and with historians who minimize the Nazi dictator's evil.

Their noxious theories about Jews became the defining question of the Turning Point confab. The podcaster Ben Shapiro denounced the anti-Semites. That prompted Steve Bannon, the former adviser to President Donald Trump, to cast Shapiro as a "cancer." By conducting their argument in public, the two sides"those who criticize anti-Semitism and those who tolerate it"were essentially begging Vance, the headliner of the event, to render a verdict.

When presented with the simplest moral test, Vance failed. "We have far more important work to do than canceling each other," he said, as if anti-Semitism were just one more woke fixation.

Noah Rothman - JD Vance Picks a Side

Vance has made a choice here, and it's a clarifying one. His allies are telling us straight that this is all about JD Vance - his political ambitions, his position as Donald Trump's most likely successor, and, by extension, their own prospects when Trump is gone. Those voices claim that if you object to the rehabilitation of outright antisemitism on behalf of actual Nazis - not some tortured Democratic metaphor for fascism but the actual NSDAP circa 1920 to 1945 - you're the paranoiac here.

Vance will pretend as though he is disinterestedly arbitrating a political dispute on the right, but he's not. He has intervened in it on behalf of his allies and their revisionist historical project. If Vance's contention is that the figures like Shapiro, who aren't nobly attempting to talk sense to the talker class, are maliciously bifurcating the conservative movement and sowing division, the vice president's implicit outlook is that interventions like Shapiro's are the problem. That is an effort to shackle the interveners and arrest the rehabilitative process. Whatever else that is, it is not a neutral disposition.

- his position as Donald Trump's most likely successor,

Vance popularity with MAGA poll:

www.newsweek.com

He's nothing without the Cult Leader; he was disliked greatly for all his anti-Trump rhetoric before Trump re-formed him. In a Cult, there can really Be Only One.

#4 'Tis true, you know.

The Reverand Jim Jones, late of Guyana, left no designated successor.

What a short-sighted individual.

Where's his "Peoples Temple" today?

Israel is a Death Cult.

The US is in their Thrall. It's Embarrassing how any Crimes no matter how horrid, Any Excesses no matter how Egregious, are somehow Wholesome and even Righteous when they are the Perps.

Criticism of Murder and Expansionist Wars is somehow called "Antisemitic" if Jews are the Criminals.

No only are they given Aid and Comfort, Any Protests against these crimes are considered "Terrorism" and Felony Charges brought on people trying to Protest Murders. More punishment is given protesters than Killers,Netanyahu walks a free man.

The Real Terrorists are the IDF and the Israeli Right.

If MAGA goes full Anti Israel it would be the ONLY good thing to come of the whole mess.

Jonestown Resembles Israel more than MAGA.

It will end in a Similar way Too.

"Antisemitism" IS just another "Woke" fixation. A particularly Nasty One.

Jews are not a Victimized Group, they are Waging a Campaign of Extermination on people that are helpless, and are being helped by the US and Western Europe in their Unholy Attacks on Civilians.

The Hypocrisy is beyond anything seen in many years.

Palestinians are Painted as Devils,Terrorists who Kill for Nothing.

In Fact PALESTINIANS are the injured party not the Jews.

The Israelis have shown a Tribalism so Savage and Insular that they could rightly be called Insane.

Americans side with Israel as a matter of Tradition, not genuine interest.

American Zionists are ------- Protestants who only want the "Rapture"they think the horrors in Israel Presage.

They don't give a ---- about actual Jewish People.

MAGA reflects this inner contradiction.

A coherent foreign policy would put Israel in the Smallest Box they could.

Not Enable 20th Century Horrors in Palestine because they think the Jews are synonymous with Israel.

They Are Not.

Not to change the subject but when I read the headline about Vance's moral crisis I immediately thought of ADULTRY.

Back to your regular programming.

This is a guy who created his political career by writing a book about how terrible his mother was. it's all downhill from there.

So, an opinion piece. WTF should I give a s**t what this person I've never heard of has to say?

#11 Why should you "...give a s**t what this person I've never heard of has to say"???

Indeed.

You gave such a little a s**t that you actually commented.

#11 Are you always so willing to humiliate yourself in public?

He was lucky to get "adopted" by "Kingmaker" Peter Thiel who paid his freight for all those pre-Trump years and all the way up to the vice presidency, to the tune of multi, multi millions of dollars, a big chunk of that to pay Donald Trump to pick J.D. for Vice President.

There will be no stopping "Kingmaker" Peter Thiel now if Vance runs for President in 2028. He can change his moniker from "Kingmaker" to Shadow President.

Vance is going to fold like a napkin if Trump dies. Jr.'s gonna come in and sweep the field, and he'll have access to all Moscow's kompromat on Vance, which for hilarity will be on bedsides for years to come.

There's still plenty of time to fight over the spoils of the Trump administration.

The point I was getting to is Vance's personal dilemma. His now wife, Usha, is the daughter of immigrants from India and who is refusing to give up her Hindu religion and adopt Christianity. She has set her foot down on that. That could be a deal breaker for Vance's presidential aspirations.

Vance has to decide (and soon) what is more important to him. His now wife or someone else (like Erika Kirk) who would be the beautiful firebrand First Lady with a constituency of her own to help him get elected.

Assuming you already know that we're dealing with genuine, dyed-in-the-wool sociopaths without a conscience nor respect for personal boundaries, Vance might have to ditch the old and come in with the new (wife, that is) if he wants to be President.

Like the huge error the Founding Daddies made not anticipating a greedy narcissist with no interest in the public benefit becoming President?

or someone else (like Erika Kirk)

She does like to dress like a tight leather couch when he's around.

Time will tell on this J.D./Erika thing. Let's see what kind of pressure Peter Thiel brings to the decision. Thiel has spent a lifetime and millions of dollars supporting and promoting Vance for just this moment in time. Peter Thiel very much wants to be the Shadow President to (much like Donald Trump) enrich himself.

Vance owes him big time.

Not nearly as hilarious as reading a comment about antisemitism from someone who can't spell the word and probably doesn't know what it even means.
