Despite claims by the Trump administration, a new study has found that Americans are absorbing about 96% of the costs of President Donald Trump's tariffs.

A significant question.

A bigger one in my mind is who will take the blame for the inflationary pressure that level of money injection will cause. We've saw this with the COVID stimulus bills and it will happen again.

Honestly, I wish they would just say no refund, the money collected should just be applied to the national debt or something and we all just move on, especially since the corporations passed on the cost and shouldn't receive this massive windfall for nothing.

Dummkopf Trumpf, the Republicans, and the mega-oligarchs rammed the Titanic head on into the iceberg and then kvetch about it.

Historical sidenote: Had Titanic rammed the iceberg head on, she most likely would NOT have sunk. Passengers and crewmembers might have been injured from the initial collision, but only the front bulkhead would have been pierced.

The futile attempt to avoid the iceberg by steering "Hard to Port" resulted in several bulkheads being breached on the starboard side, something the unsinkable Titanic couldn't possibly stay afloat afterwards: i.ytimg.com

Of course a major question remains ...

Let's suppose that SCOTUS deems the Trump tariffs to be illegal and must be refunded.

To whom will those refunds go?

To the Americans importers? Or to the end consumers who ultimately paid for them?

I don't think there is any way to force corps to rebate the money directly to customers, they probably couldn't do so even if they wanted. What could be done would be to publish the names of the corps receiving rebates with the expectation that customers could demand price reductions for future purchases equivalent to the size of the tariff rebate.

In the real world, a tariff on French wine is not absorbed by the French winemaker, but is added to the price of anything imported from said French winemaker to stores in the U.S., who tack that on to the final price. So you're a ------- clown, Ballwasher.
