... let me give you a quick summary," Johnson responded ...

imo, less of an explanation, and more of the usual politician's comment, ~let me get out of here~ comment.

imo Spkr Johnson is a wuss. No, let me correct my opinion. A lame wuss.

All he seems to do is follow Pres Trump's orders.

Totally ignoring the Constitution's co-equal government dictum.

imo, he has failed the requirements of the most respected position he occupies.

And, if I may add as a corollary ...

What does that say about the Republicans who put him in that position?

Asked differently, Spkr Johnson is the best and the brightest of the GOP in the House of Representatives?

Arch blasphemer and shoddy frontispiece for America's super-wealthy oligarchs Republican Mike Johnson knows more about theology than Pope Leo XIV?

Talk about hubris.

It's weird, but I really do think Pope Leo has a firmer grasp of the Bible (especially the New Testament, the part Christians didn't appropriate from another people with another religion) than Bossier Parish's very own wannabe Elmer Gantry (but lacking Gantry's fire and wisdom).

For a guy on video explaining he doesn't know things, Johnson sure thinks he knows things.

I think he's just a lying wuss.

The fake plastic Christian giving a half a&&ed "lesson" to a guy who has spent his entire life studying this stuff...

Must be why the Pope cites New Testament while dips*&^ fake plastic Chreestian cites Old Testament.

Mikey is speaking with his lower rear mouth.

New converts to Christianity were not expected to be circumcised, nor to follow Jewish food and other laws... as a matter of fact, neither were Jews who converted.

And the his mealy-mouthed talk about immigrants (or sojourners in the bible) is the polar opposite of the truth.

Remarkable that the Christian villains target young goyim, while the Jewish villains target young shiksas

What a mystery story to write or comic book to illustrate.

Why doesn't Trump respond to the Pope? Trump is after all the White Christian Nationalist Messiah.

I wouldn't put it past Johnson to be IN the files.

My first impession of the rather fey gent was this is the kind of political animal that steadfastly believes his de regure knee-jerk piety grants him carte blanch to nakedly and repeatedly fib to the American public, despite any credible or factual push-back to the contrary. It's a Bronze Age zombie yarn some have historically found useful in controling those with little to no ability to recognize how "bad" Angry Sky Daddy can be in determining who makes society's on-going pact with itself fair & just for everyone. $20 says he has a Grindr account.

Spkr Johnson cited Romans 13.

Other times Romans 13 was cited in American History ...

Should we always obey the government? (2018)
www.psephizo.com

... Adding to the emotion and confusion in this situation, the Attorney General Jeff Sessions cited Paul's words in Romans 13 to deflect criticism and suggest that Christians should simply accept the Government's approach:
"I would cite you to the Apostle Paul and his clear and wise command in Romans 13, to obey the laws of the government because God has ordained the government for his purposes," Sessions said during a speech to law enforcement officers in Fort Wayne, Ind. "Orderly and lawful processes are good in themselves. Consistent and fair application of the law is in itself a good and moral thing, and that protects the weak and protects the lawful."

What is odd about Sessions reaching for this text is that it was previously called upon in two key moments of US history:

"There are two dominant places in American history when Romans 13 is invoked," said John Fea, a professor of American history at Messiah College in Pennsylvania.

"One is during the American Revolution [when] it was invoked by loyalists, those who opposed the American Revolution."

The other, Fea said, "is in the 1840s and 1850s, when Romans 13 is invoked by defenders of the South or defenders of slavery to ward off abolitionists who believed that slavery is wrong. I mean, this is the same argument that Southern slaveholders and the advocates of a Southern way of life made."

The current use (and previous use in Europe to justify loyalty to Adolf Hitler in pre-war Germany) might suggest that the Bible is useless as a guide for anything, since its texts are so pliable and can be used to support opposite positions. ...

That could be true of most writings sans any context.
