The flights are notable not only for their proximity to the coast, which puts them well within range of gathering intelligence, but for the suddenness of their appearance.

... Since February 4, the U.S. Navy and Air Force have conducted at least 25 such flights using manned aircraft and drones, most of them near the country's two biggest cities, Havana and Santiago de Cuba, and some coming within 40 miles of the coast, according to FlightRadar24. Most of the flights were by P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft, which are designed for surveillance and reconnaissance, while some were by an RC-135V Rivet Joint, which specializes in signals intelligence gathering. Several MQ-4C Triton high-altitude reconnaissance drones have also been used. I'd like him to be hung by the neck until he is dead. And may God send him straight to Hell.

Knowing this administration, someone is searching for sites for a Trump-branded resort, with 2-3 golf courses, a beach and lots of brown-skinned folk with cute accents to serve drinks at the pool, make up beds and otherwise welcome Yanquis. Oh, and don't forget the Trump-branded casinos island-wide...

Murder is murder, and just because you have the power to kill at will doesn't make you a savior, it makes you a mass murderer like Ted Bundy.

Plus, I checked my Magic 8 Ball. It thinks an invasion of Cuba is going to happen.

Presently I am reading "A Question of Character: A Life of JFK" by Thomas C. Reeves.
In 1960, everybody knew a US invasion of Cuba was going to happen: newspapers, activists, DOD, Congress, and most importantly, Fidel Castro.
Under "Ike," Cuban ex-patriates were being trained by CIA in Guatemala ("Brigade 2506") and the "secret" was a sieve.
The only unknown was when the attack would take place and the precise location in Cuba.
The US was to provide no uniformed personnel or equipment, so CIA and USAF planes were disguised and the operation would therefore be a purely Cuban "counter-revolution."
The Bay of Pigs was unwisely chosen and Fidel's tremendous, well-motivated, and well-equipped army was ready for Brigade 2506.
The always victorious JFK had to suffer his first public black eye as POTUS and he furiously wanted to dismantle CIA, "casting it into the four winds."

Indeed, Coriolanus. And afterwards JFK was more careful when it came to accepting assurances of the sort that left him famously observing, "Victory has a hundred fathers, but defeat is an orphan." For example, his skepticism during the Cuban Missile Crisis. (Recall, he made damn sure that at the end of the day he had tapes.)

Hi Doc Sarvis
I read Essence of Decision years ago about the Cuban Missile Crisis, which I'm sure you read or heard of.
After JFK made a televised speech about the potential of an "atomic war" with the USSR, people began buying nuclear fallout shelters and some built their own.
Ted Sorensen, the wordsmith behind JFK, made it all sound so patriotic, that JFK's approval rating increased after this speech about a potential apocalypse.
Time permitting later tonight, I'll post an OP with some factoids from "A Question of Character: A Life of JFK" by Thomas C. Reeves, as I did with Sinclair Lewis' 1927 tome Elmer Gantry.

It was a pretty hairy time, Coriolanus. In retrospect, even harrier than we thought. (Per Robert McNamara: "It wasn't until January, 1992, in a meeting chaired by Castro in Havana, Cuba, that I learned 162 nuclear warheads, including 90 tactical warheads, were on the island at the time of this critical moment of the crisis" www.errolmorris.com). At my high school we were told if war started - there were some missile silos in nearby hills - townies could hop the school bus for a ride home; those of us living outside town could hoof it. Our prospects looked dim. Give JFK credit, he made good use of TV to build support. Personally, I found the published photos taken during U-2 overflights of Cuba to be fascinating.
