Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Monday, June 08, 2026

I noticed today that I never check the DR on my phone anymore. It used to be my #1 boredom blocker. In a waiting room or on the subway, it was my go to. Now with all the drop down ads and in between ads, etc. I just don't anymore, it's just not worth the trouble. It seems counter productive to me to make your site so annoying that folks give it up. Now the ads play to no one.

I thought this was going to be about the mobile version of this site, which is even more limited.

Many users here suspect that rcade gave up on the site years ago, maybe around the time Matt appeared to sell or completely outsource his. If it wasn't for those of us who still post here regularly, this place would be indistinguishable from the old zombie websites, like tribe.net was towards the end of its life.

Well stated,TFD. Same.

I've shifted to the original 'Drudge Report'. It is an informative news aggregation site. Most def my first 'morning' read.

Switch to Firefox mobile and use an ad blocker. I recommend uBlock origin. Chrome only exists to send all of your data to Google and more recently stop you from blocking the ads google sells.

Yeah, the slow moving ads that drop from the top are annoying AF.

If I had given up on the site it wouldn't be operational. It takes ongoing efforts to keep things running and get rid of spammers and other nefarious characters.

We change the ads all the time. Mobile should be better now than it was last week because we took down some mobile-only AMP pages that had too many ads on them.

I'm often on mobile but I don't see too many ads on DuckDuckGo, sorry RCade it's like I'm literally stealing from you.

I noticed in the last maybe 2 weeks that there are fewer ads in the middle of a thread. It is distracting and hard to read when you can only see two comments and then advertise, 2 more, another ad, etc. I have been happier with the site lately.

Recently I had ads pop up while I was composing a post and it took some doing to get back to what I was typing. I get that this site needs ad revenue to keep functioning but it also needs traffic to keep functioning and when the sheer volume of ads becomes so annoying that it drives people away the ads become a hinderance.

That's what drove Sully off.
Every last Republican became an ad for Trump, and none of them can have a discussion longer than three sentences, and two of the sentences will be about Biden.

I can't do the ads, and I'm not sorry for it.

I'd rather the DR hawk somewhat decent items for a cut. I might not buy everything, but I'd buy some things.

I'd even send money online if I felt it was secure. How much revenue does one user bring in? It can't be much.

I switched from Chrome to Duck Duck Go myself because I was tired of Google having so much information about me. Duck Duck Go shows a lot fewer ads here and on other sites. Some news sites think I'm using an ad blocker, but it's just the browser.

On the PC I've been using Brave OS w/ built in VPN and ad blocker along with Chrome... I need to just go ahead and switch away from Google completely, including the phone.

There's not really a "Brave OS." But the Brave browser is pretty good.

Thanks, I meant Brave browser, not OS.
