Love of money is the root of all evil.

But all Americans are taught to be irrational about money.

So all our brains grow old together.

This doesn't surprise me.

Constant anxiety about bills and repossessions is crippling.

Does the same pattern hold if they get relief?

Americans are socialized to obsess about money and our political system is Obsessed about it too.

More than anything it is being poor and excluded...if you grow up in a very poor neighborhood and no one has much of anything, the pain of not belonging isn't so powerful. I grew up in rural CT in the middle of the last century and lived until second grade in a cabin that had no running water...it had an outhouse. But no one had a tv, and everyone could afford a radio....

Duh. Money problems increase stress.

Too much stress is bad.

Stress increases aging.

Brilliant! But could have told you that by just looking in my mirror.

How much did we waste in that study?

There's a quote from Charles Dickens I've bastardized over the years, but it goes something like this:

20 Pounds annual income, 19 Pounds annual expenditure...bliss. 20 Pounds annual income, 21 Pounds annual expenditure...misery.

In my 40 years of advising folks on financial matters, that's the one rule for which there is no exception.
