Newsmax Projects Dems Win Senate, Sweep Congress
www.newsmax.com

... Newsmax projected Tuesday night that Democrats have won control of the U.S. Senate, completing a congressional sweep after the network earlier projected Democrats would capture the House in a major setback for President Donald Trump and his Republican allies.

The projected Senate takeover came as Democrats notched victories in several Republican strongholds, amid voter frustration over the economy, rising prices, the war in Iran and declining approval ratings for Trump.

The Senate projection followed a series of Democrat victories in closely watched races, including North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas and Ohio.

In North Carolina, former Democrat Gov. Roy Cooper defeated Trump-backed Republican Michael Whatley, flipping a seat held by retiring Republican Sen. Thom Tillis.

In Texas, Democrat James Talarico defeated Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton, delivering a major upset in a state that has not elected a Democrat to statewide office in more than three decades, according to The Associated Press. ...

... For decades now we've documented how while "smart" TV makers are obsessed with making money off of in-home surveillance (which is now more profitable than the actual TV), they do an abysmal job protecting the data they collect. They also routinely don't respect consumer choice when users say they don't want to participate in the full scope of hyper-commercialized mass surveillance.

That latter point is central to a new study out of Northeastern that conducted 5,943 experiments across twelve commercial "smart" TV devices. The researchers found that most smart TVs utilize automatic content recognition (ACR), a technology that captures audio or video snapshots of viewed content and then monetizes that data to help build personalized profiles of viewers.

TV makers insist that users are supposed to be able to opt out, but the choice simply doesn't work across a large segment of TVs. Companies like Vizio simply ignored the consumer requests entirely more often than not:

"We find that the advertised ACR opt-out fully suppresses ACR-attributable traffic on only four operating systems; on Samsung Tizen traffic consistent with ACR activity persists in more than 60% of evaluated scenarios, and on Vizio SmartCast a content correlated endpoint hosted on Amazon Kinesis continues to receive traffic in 100% of opted-out scenarios."

These companies have been awful for a long while now, and U.S. regulation of the sector has varied between soggy and inconsistent ...

imo, if the Democrats actually take over both Houses of Congress, they might be in trouble because they will not be able to pass any laws because of the Trump veto.

Trump says he is prepared to use "tremendous powers" if Democrats take control

... "I have the ultimate power -- it's called 'veto,'" President Trump told CBS News in an exclusive phone interview before polls closed across the country in this year's midterm elections, when asked about the prospect of a Democratic-controlled Congress next year. ...

@#44 ... Weirdest numbers: 50% mail in votes. ...

... and that is weird ... why?

Maybe because of things like this?

Georgia's GOP House Speaker says vote-by-mail system would be 'devastating to Republicans' (April 2020)
thehill.com

..."... a multitude of reasons why vote by mail in my view is not acceptable," [Georgia state House Speaker David] Ralston went on, before adding "the president said it best, this will be extremely devastating to Republicans and conservatives in Georgia."

"The things they had in there were crazy. They had things, levels of voting that if you ever agreed to, you would never have a Republican elected in this country again," Pres Trump said. ...

Might that unspecified and unsubstantiated reason be the cause of MAGA apparent dreadful fear of mail-in ballots?
