A Toronto man has been acquitted of a choking attack on a young girl after a judge ruled that he had been under the influence of marijuana and said that the attack was due to a "psychotic episode." During the attack, he invoked Allah, according to court documents. Ahmed Baig pleaded not guilty to assault causing bodily harm and assault by choking after an August 2023 attack in which he left his home wearing only a towel after vaping cannabis. The towel fell off and he started chasing a family that he encountered in the driveway. "He ran into the driveway and picked up a seven-year-old girl. He threw her to the ground, punched her and strangled her. He then abruptly left the driveway, and a short time later was arrested by police. At the time of arrest, he wore only a T-shirt," Justice Mara Greene wrote, recounting the incident. read more

Data shows small businesses lost hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue during Operation Metro Surge. A Hennepin County program launched to help them ended up shutting down. Nearly half of the applications for taxpayer-funded recovery money were fake. "We caught the fraud before we spent any money," Hennepin County Commissioner Jeffrey Lunde said. Lunde says it was an unfortunate win. In March 2026, Hennepin County Commissioners approved $2 million to help small businesses cover rent or mortgage payments as Operation Metro Surge kept customers away. read more

A federal appellate court has upheld a decision allowing Hamtramck to ban Pride flags on city-owned property. The ruling, issued Aug. 21 by the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals, affirmed the Sept. 2025 dismissal by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan of a challenge to Hamtramck's 2023 ban on flying Pride and other group flags on city-owned flagpoles. The court held that even assuming the poles had previously been a forum for private speech, the city is permitted to change the purpose of that forum and restrict the poles to specified flags, making the display government speech. read more

It's just the conventional forces that are funneled into buying ------ military.

They are allowed to purchase what they want as well. This is just the standard issue.

Troops can currently wear non-American-made boots if they purchase them on their own (through allowances). That standard could change, however, as federal lawmakers consider the Better Outfitting Our Troops, or BOOTS, Act.

Well, this is interesting.

2025 - The Marine Corps is developing new footwear after it found that a significant percentage of boots Marines were buying had quality issues, resulting in Marine Corps Exchange stores having to return nearly one-quarter of its boot stocks.
The Optional Boot Program, which was publicized in a service news release last week, is meant to quickly get high-quality boots to Marines through inspections, fleet feedback, real-world testing and industry competition after COVID-era supply chain issues began rattling quality and inflating prices starting years ago.

Having served as program manager for the CSS for two years, Gillikin said that he has received plenty of feedback from Marines about boot quality and cost, and that fit and durability are often top feedback points for footwear. The release from last Friday said that service-approved boots can range between $189 and $399 and, while enlisted Marines receive a uniform allowance, it often doesn't cover the cost of top-rated footwear.
