George Noble, a longtime Fidelity fund manager and Wall Street veteran, sees big problems brewing in the booming private credit market. The former director of Fidelity Overseas Fund recently wrote that he sees the makings of a financial crisis in the sector, echoing others who have worried about a spate of negative headlines in recent months. Private credit fears have been swirling on Wall Street since late last year when some high-profile borrowers went bankrupt. Noble said he has been monitoring it for months, and he thinks problems are getting harder to ignore. "We're watching a financial crisis unfold in real time," he said in a post on X. "The last time funds started blocking investors from getting their money back, Bear Stearns collapsed six months later."
As the war with Iran continues, farmers with already slim profit margins are struggling.
Billy and Greg Bridgeforth, who oversee a fifth-generation family farm in Tanner, say diesel prices through their distributor in Decatur have risen more than $2 since the war began, from $2.99 to $5.02. On a full day of farming, they said they can use up to 1,500 gallons of diesel on their tractors alone " meaning they could pay more than $3,000 extra on a full day.
The war has added pressure not only through fuel costs but also through fertilizer prices. The Bridgeforths say they are now paying $100 extra per ton.
"With the prices of the inputs going up so high, and if we were to have a disastrous cotton crop like we did last year, that could be real trouble," Billy said.
Three days after President Trump announced his "Complete and Total Endorsement" of the Louisiana congressional candidate Blake Miguez, the Republican contender posted a video from outside the West Wing boasting of his close relationship with Trump and his team. "I just got done having some great meetings with the White House," he told his supporters on February 7. What he did not say"either publicly or to Trump's advisers at the time"was that there was a political bombshell about to drop on his campaign for Louisiana's deep-red Fifth Congressional District. Months earlier, when Miguez was running for the U.S. Senate, a 2007 police report had surfaced that showed that Miguez's former girlfriend had accused him of rape and other abusive behavior, including locking her in bedrooms, taking away her keys, and holding her down.

President Donald Trump has authorized the United States to release 172 million barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve beginning next week, the Energy Department said in a statement Wednesday. Two years ago, a prankster art collective in Brooklyn known as MSCHF sold off shares in a black calf they nicknamed Angus, pledging to butcher him into burgers and leather handbags unless his arty stakeholders chose to save him. On March 13, the fully grown bull's fate will be decided, and it's looking grim. Only around a third of Angus's 404 owners have plied their tokenized shares of the animal into the artists' online Remorse Portal, signifying their wish to save his life. If Angus doesn't cross the 50% mark by Friday, he'll be butchered and shipped out as 1,200 hamburger patties and four leather handbags designed by the group to look like meat. Read more
