Ukraine Ambushes Russian Convoy in Kursk

Ukrainian forces staged an overnight ambush on a Russian convoy 25 miles inside the international border in Russia's Kursk province, as the Kremlin declared a federal emergency and said it was transferring extra forces to try to snuff out a four-day incursion that has badly damaged its credibility.

Ukrainians have been able to wage war miles into Russia for days now? At this rate they're going to be attacking Moscow next week.

Ruh Roh... looks like the Russian Gen in Charge in Kursk has gone too near a window!

"Putin Army Chief's Absence Fuels Exit Rumors

"Russian army chief Valery Gerasimov was conspicuously absent from an emergency Security Council meeting held by President Vladimir Putin on Friday, raising further questions as he faces mounting criticism over Ukraine's surprise incursion into the western Kursk region.

Gerasimov, 68, is reported to be under fire after seemingly dismissing intelligence warnings that Kyiv's forces were preparing to launch an armored assault into Kursk, which borders Ukraine's northeastern Sumy region.

Bloomberg, citing an unnamed source close to the Kremlin, reported Thursday that Kremlin officials are frustrated with his handling of the war.

Similar accusatory reports regarding Gerasimov were circulating on Russian Telegram channels this week, as Ukrainian troops advanced deeper inside the Kursk region."

I wonder what Vlad is doing to house the evacuees, besides re-education about what they really saw was Russian army drills on their way to Ukraine and victory. Good luck Valery-hope you enjoyed serving old Vladimir. I'm sure you will receive a shocker of a pension.

From the reports it looks like Ukraine did more than just ambush a convoy. I hate to see defenseless old people dragged into this war. They have no recourse. They don't have the insulation of a democracy. They can't vote the bums out of office like we do here in the U.S.

The UKA/AFU took a right turn to make some booms on other Russian infrastructure.

UKA commandos deeper inside Russia snuck inside a train engine and made it go boom. The conductor left it unlocked LOL

Quite a bit of that kind of stuff happening.

They're doing a good job of sowing discord inside Russia among the populous and inside the Kremlin.

... Ukrainian troops have entered another Russian border region, according to social-media posts and video footage, as Kyiv continues its surprise incursion into the Kursk oblast.

The Russian Defense Ministry has said that it is repelling Ukraine's forces in the northwestern region. However, reports say that Kyiv's troops are operating more than six miles inside the frontier, amid some accounts add that they are even deeper in Russian territory. Thousand of civilians from districts around the town of Sudzha have been evacuated from their homes.

However, on Saturday, video footage posted on Telegram purportedly showed troops fighting for Ukraine in the Belgorod region further north, which itself has been the scene of cross-border skirmishes over the course of the war. The veracity of the clip has not been independently confirmed, and it is unclear when it filmed. Newsweek has contacted the Russian and Ukrainian defense ministries for comment. ...

Was this incursion a surprise to Pres Putin?

The thread title doesn't do justice to what's been developing over the last 5 days. The Ukraine recon forces were fighting Russian reinforcements 10+km ahead of the current projected battle maps just 3 hours ago. They're doing it with only 4 known committed brigades, that's a max of 2000 people.

Do the Ukrainian tanks have enough gas to reach moscow?

#27 | Posted by Tor at 2024-08-12 01:36 PM

They don't have enough bodies to strongpoint all the roads on the way to Moscow. It's already a really long way just to get to Kursk or Belgorod. What they're doing is already significant. They have to carve off enough, and dig in deep to hold it, to have territory to trade back to Russian.

Agreed. It's historic. People are comparing it to George Washington's crossing the Delaware moment.

Some 200,000 Russians have had to be evacuated. So far.

The raid of Ukraines expeditionary force inside Russia has punctured the Kremlin's (and Republicans) narrative "that Ukrainian resistance is useless and support for Ukraine is futile."

"Vladimir Putin abruptly interrupted an acting regional governor who said Ukraine's military had taken control of 28 towns and villages in Russia's Kursk border region, prompting a sixth of its population to flee.

"You can tell us about the socio-economic situation and about helping people," Putin told Smirnov, who went on to list assistance provided to more than 120,000 residents he said had left their homes in the region, with about 60,000 more waiting to be evacuated.

He admitted fighting could spread further in Russia, telling the governor of neighboring Bryansk region that if things were calm there now "it doesn't mean the situation will remain the same tomorrow."

Ukraine would continue attacks to try to destabilize the political situation in the country, Putin said. The government in Kyiv was attempting to stop Russia's offensive in eastern Ukraine and was "striving to improve its negotiating positions in the future," he said."
