A Trump-supporting Ohio businessman is getting major blowback from fellow Trump supporters after he publicly defended the honor of the Haitian immigrants he has hired to work for him. The New York Times reports that Jamie McGregor, a lifelong Republican who twice voted for former President Donald Trump and owner of the McGregor Metal manufacturing shop, has been hit with "death threats, a lockdown at his company and posters around town branding him a traitor" because he praised the Haitian immigrants who work at his company.

The------------- built that.

And he'll probably still vote for Trump.

Is nyone surprised at this? How about you, BULL?

This is what happens when one of your people steps out of line.

One day it will happen to you.

The foolish bigots are going to make a folk hero out of the factory owner.

All the man is doing is defending the basic dignity of the people who are working hard to make him money.

He's right though to stand by his employees and if there really are death threats I admire him for arming himself rather than lie about his workers.

@#2 ... And he'll probably still vote for Trump. ...

At this point, from what I have seen of those in the Trump cult, I could not disagree.

That said, I would be curious how these experiences may affect his views.

Is he still hitched to the ~life sucks, then you die~ mantra of the Trump campaign?

"At this point, from what I have seen of those in the Trump cult, I could not disagree."

That's classic abuser/abused behavior.

@#6 ... That's classic abuser/abused behavior ...

I've not looked at it previously through that lens.

But I do have to say, fmr Pres Trump's creepy comments to women that he will protect them, when he seems to have sexual assault cases (and decisions) against him... well thinking you are protecting someone you may actually be abusing?

As I said, I have not thought about it in that context previously.

OK, I do not know the comment you are responding to.

But for the record, I said (#5), "At this point, from what I have seen of those in the Trump cult, I could not disagree."

Along with some other stuff.

(including, imo, a link to an interesting tune)

The governor of Ohio said many of the bomb threats in Springfield OH originated outside the USA. It's in line these death threats to the factory owner are from paid Russian trolls employed by Putin's social media troll farms working to put their puppet Trump in charge.

And if Mr. McGregor can still be a Trump supporter then fine! We don't need absolute idiots yo win this election. Virtually all polls are saying the stupid people are going to lose and that the Cult of Stupidity's rein of terror with or withot Mr. McGregor's help. If he's really that dumb, which I absolutely do not believe, then oh well. One rule we know: "you can't fix stupid!"

MAGA is a mental disease.

Just think how much of a ---head you have to be to push this hatred against another human when it has been proven a lie.

Now think that JP, JD Jethro Dull is doing this AGAINST THE PEOPLE HE IS SUPPOSED TO REPRESENT AS A SENATOR.

That is just what a piece of absolute filth --- he is.

Perhaps.

Also true: local law enforcement recommended that this guy arm himself. He wasn't a gun owner, now he is. Suggests a local threat.

To be frank why are they not staying in their own homeland and country (Haiti) and fixing it just as the USA settlers did in its inception, instead of coming here and disrupting and wanting welfare payments from Americans? This is always about new Dem voters and taxpayers subsidizing cheap labor for lobbyists and business men, not honor of immigrants.

#15 | Posted by Robson at 2024-10-01 09:58 AM

Democrats always wanting to destroy our Christian-American values while spinning political propaganda to blame whites or anyone that they can target politically. Deporting all the Democrats to Haiti might be a more effective solution for real Americans.

"wanting welfare payments from Americans"

You mean not missing a day of work and passing your drug test, paying taxes, and being a productive member of the community?

Umm, first Nations on line one. Why didn't the settlers stay in their home countries and fix the problems there?

He wouldn't know who Emma Lazarus was, or why you're referring to her.

That inscription is one of my favorites.

Makes me feel the same way reading Lincoln's words carved into the inner walls of the Lincoln Memorial does.

True.

My response was aimed at the smarter; I was aware, and posted regardless.

fwiw, a bit of history ...

Irish Immigrant Stereotypes and American Racism
picturinghistory.gc.cuny.edu

... "The Most Recently Discovered Wild Beast" (1881) is one of a series of nineteenth-century images portraying the Irish as violent and subhuman. In the U.S. survey I use images of this sort when examining the history of anti-immigrant prejudice and its relationship to American racism.

Native-born Americans criticized Irish immigrants for their poverty and manners, their supposed laziness and lack of discipline, their public drinking style, their catholic religion, and their capacity for criminality and collective violence. in both words and pictures, critics of the Irish measured character by perceived physical appearance.

Political cartoons such as the "Wild Beast" offered an exaggerated version of these complaints. The Irish-American "Dynamite Skunk," clad in patriotic stars and stripes, has diabolical ears and feet and he sports an extraordinary tail. around his waist he is wearing an "infernal machine," a terrorist bomb that was usually disguised as a harmless everyday object, in this case a book. in the cage next to him, sketched in outline, is a second beast.

The Wild Beast image is especially interesting because it places American history in a transatlantic framework. the cartoon comes from a British satirical magazine called Judy and is part of a transatlantic discourse of anti-Irish prejudice. It captures a significant moment in Irish and Irish-American history known as the "New Departure," which briefly united the main elements of Irish social and political protest in a powerful transatlantic coalition.
The United States was home to some of the leading Irish nationalists and social reformers, including Patrick Ford, the editor of the Irish World, a radical New York newspaper subtitled "An American Advocate of Indiscriminate Murder" in this image. Irish extremism, as the British saw it, was "Bred in the United States."

Although the Wild Beast is an Irish-American, he is being held captive in Britain, as indicated by the figure of the policeman. The central action involves a girl held aloft to present the beast with a "Concession to Violence." she represents the "Irish Land Bill," a reform measure designed to defuse social tensions in Ireland. The nursemaid holding her aloft turns out to be Prime Minister William Gladstone, the chief supporter of the bill.

Gladstone's appeasement of violence, the cartoon suggests, will only intensify Irish extremism. two figures in the image embody the loyal and moderate Irish " the woman in the background who addresses the beast in a typically Irish idiom ("Bad luck to ye! You murderin' thief") and the man to her left, brandishing a shillelagh. But Gladstone, his face set in stolid determination, is oblivious to his surroundings. And the policeman is so self-enamored that he has closed his eyes. British officialdom remains blissfully unaware of the consequences of making concessions to violence. Meanwhile, the Irishman to the right adds a sinister dimension to the proceedings. ...

"why are they not staying in their own homeland and country (Haiti) and fixing it just as the USA settlers did"

What a riot.

The story of the USA settlers is they LITERALLY didn't stay in their homeland and country to "fix it".

It's like the comedy writes itself!

Sadly, we've see that same playbook used by the same percentage of Americans on immigrant group after immigrant group.

Only the names have changed ...

#30 | Posted by AMERICANUNITY at 2024-10-03 01:48 AM

"Polacks" were the butt of most jokes among kids where I grew up.

Then, I met my friend's immigrant professor dad with multiple PhDs who spent a few years in a NAZI prison in a cell full of fellow physicists and scientists who refused to work with the NAZIs on rockets and later Hitler's nuclear project. A cell so full they had to sleep on the floor in shifts.

His wife, from a prominent family in Poland, spied on higher echelon NAZIs who commandeered homes on their family estates. Goes without saying, at great peril to herself and her family.

When I think about it, IMO a lot of prejudice (pre-judge) is a result of language barriers that causes new immigrant groups with limited or no English to stick to their own expat circles. Every group (including the Irish) work the most menial jobs. So, between the language barrier and condescension from bigots towards them because of the work they do to feed their families, some white people will never see them as equal human beings. Usually takes a generation or two for full assimilation.

It should be noted that the largest group of "illegal aliens" in America are Europeans/Brits who overstayed their tourist visas.
