Trump's Decline is too Dangerous to Ignore

Kimberly Atkins Stohr: We can see the decline in the former president's ability to hold a train of thought, speak coherently, or demonstrate a command of the English language, to say nothing of policy. So why are Republicans and the press holding Trump to a different standard than Biden?

From the op-ed:

Trump's party has not urged him to step aside for the good of the country, as Biden's did. And much of the press is doing the American people a disservice by treating Trump's obvious cognitive slippage as just "Trump being Trump."

Yes, the press has a lot to wrestle with when it comes to Trump, including his embrace of authoritarian strongmen, his refusal to vow to accept the election results, his criminal conviction and civil judgments for fraud and sexual abuse, and his racism and disparagement of women, LGBTQ people, and immigrants.

But his diminishing cognitive ability can't be ignored. He may not be able to get a grip, but it's long past time the news media and Republicans stop participating in the gaslighting. We can see reality with our own eyes.

But the media will ignore it because well f**k you.

Trump's party has not urged him to step aside

Because Jethro Dull is less popular than sh*tler.

If sh*tler is elected, look for him to a) pardon himself and b) resign on day one.

Trump would never resign. His dementia is superimposed upon ree-existing mental health problems. He'll fight leaving office unless he's darted by a big game hunter, trussed up, and delivered to the sanitarium.

Donald Trump's madness has finally become in-your-face enough for even a stupid person to see.

If he wins, will there be an Inaugural Address? Somehow I doubt that.

#5 | Posted by Zed at 2024-10-18 09:55 AM

It's a legitimate concern. However, Democrats and the MSM have ZERO credibility raising this issue after they lied, gaslit, and tried to keep Biden's much worse condition hidden.

Biden had a horrible night and everyone lost their crap. I'm no fan of Biden but damn come on. Be honest for once.

It's (Trump's decline) a legitimate concern

#6 | Posted by BellRinger

If Donald were a family member, he wouldn't have the car keys now.

Of course not being able to think is a "legitimate concern".

It won't be enough to keep you from celebrating this half-wit's election,

#8 | Posted by Zed at 2024-10-18 02:29 PM

I agree with something posted here a while back----If Trump loses his lawyers will move to dismiss the criminal cases against him for reason of mental incompetence.

#9 | Posted by Zed at 2024-10-18 02:31 PM

Zed,

You were going to vote Biden if he hadn't gotten kicked to the curb and urinated on.

You might want to sit this one out.

Why?

You're not.

Biden thinks better than Trump. Way better.

Given the week Trump has had, what he has shown everyone this week, only a hack would deny it.

THAT'S the guy with "zero credibility".

" Biden thinks better than Trump. Way better."

He really showed that on the debate stage. Not!

#14 | Posted by BellRinger at 2024-10-18 03:22 PM

Trump won't resign. He's been waiting for a Dictator gig all his life. His staff can keep him in a rubber room long enough to get that new Constitution passed to create an autocracy.

It wouldn't surprise me if the GOP isn't in the market right now for a stand-in look-alike to handle brief public appearances. (i.e. Movie: "Dave" ~ for entertainment purposes only)

#15 | Posted by Twinpac at 2024-10-18 03:40 PM

Are you kidding?

Trump could be announced dead and the Republican Party would still keep him as the presidential nominee and he wouldn't lose a vote.

#16 | Posted by ClownShack at 2024-10-18 04:02 PM

Trump is now regularly canceling interviews to conceal his mental decline. #Wheresweirdo is even trending on the internet.

An exhausted' Trump says no to another interview
www.politico.com

... Recently, it's become something of a pattern: Donald Trump is scheduled for an interview with a neutral media outlet, the date nears and then ... things fall apart. ...

But no interview has materialized. As Shade Room staff began feeling that feet were being dragged inside Trump's campaign, they pressed earlier this week to set a date for a sit-down.

In response, a Trump adviser told Shade Room producers that Trump was "exhausted and refusing [some] interviews but that could change" at any time, according to two people familiar with the conversations. ...

Trump national press secretary Karoline Leavitt, while making clear she wasn't part of the back-and-forth for the Shade Room interview, said last night that the idea that Trump was exhausted "is unequivocally false." ...

Trump has been worse on several occasions since then. Biden dropped out. What's Trumps excuse?

"Trump has been worse on several occasions since then."

No. He hasn't. It' not even close. I am seeing it. He is in cognitive decline. But he ain't Biden. Not by a long shot.

"Biden dropped out."

Up until the June debate we were assured by his inner-circle and the MSM that he was sharp as a tack. Biden was forced out against his will He was mostly kept under wraps. During his tightly controlled public appearances his condition was evident We shouted it for at least a couple of years and were ridiculed and lectured that behind closed doors he was staying up 48 hours at a time. He had more energy that his 24 year old intern. He was sharp as a tack. Everly blatantly obvious instance that absolutely wrecked the narrative was derided as a "deep fake."

Biden has been a train-wreck. A victim of elder-abuse. Trump is showing similar signs as to where Biden was 4 years ago. Trump doesn't look as bad, but the decline seems to be there.

The Democratic Party has ZERO credibility trying to make this an issue given how they covered for and promoted Biden.

#31 | Posted by BellRinger at 2024-10-18 11:10 PM

I am seeing it. He is in cognitive decline.

There's hope for you yet.

#32 | Posted by REDIAL at 2024-10-18 11:18 PM

Hey, maybe he really is exhausted . . . in the mortal sense of the word.

Wouldn't that be a hoot?

#33 | Posted by Twinpac

He can shuffle off the mortal coil at any moment, no great loss. I'm not at all sure that anyone who really knew him would grieve, including members of his own family,

#34 | Posted by Zed at 2024-10-19 09:55 AM

Donald Trump's life is a testament to what it means to fail in life. Yeah, he has money and fame. So did Michael Jackson.

#35 | Posted by Zed at 2024-10-19 09:59 AM

Maybe this is just a strategy for him to argue he's unfit to stand trial.

#36 | Posted by sentinel at 2024-10-19 10:30 AM

"Maybe this is just a strategy for him to argue he's unfit to stand trial."

#36 | Posted by sentinel

The Kumquat Pol Pot needs to lose the election for that to happen.

And if that comes to fruition (Trump loses, then his lawyers argue he's unfit to stand trial), then the cognitive dissonance generated from the MAGAts will be a sight to be seen!

#37 | Posted by Hans at 2024-10-19 10:36 AM

"Maybe this is just a strategy for him to argue he's unfit to stand trial."

#36 | Posted by sentinel

And the rationalizations from the MAGAts if/when that happens...

Whoa Nellie!

#38 | Posted by Hans at 2024-10-19 10:38 AM

"Maybe this is just a strategy for him to argue he's unfit to stand trial."

Saving them for a rainy day, so to speak.

#39 | Posted by Twinpac at 2024-10-19 12:41 PM

I think it's more likely he's on a medication that has some debilitating side effects ~ effects, if known, would be sure to affect the outcome of the election. The campaign staff only has 16 more days to keep him under cover as much as possible. It doesn't look good.

Harris is doing three hotspots a day while Trump is indisposed with "exhaustion."

Yeah, sure. Let's call it that.

#40 | Posted by Twinpac at 2024-10-19 02:35 PM

If he has the best genes why can't they do something about this exhaustion?

#41 | Posted by grumpy_too at 2024-10-19 03:30 PM

GRUMPY

Because it's not "exhaustion." That's just a face-saving way to fool his followers into believing he'll be back on his feet in no time.

It's more likely that his doctor has had to increase his medication to a level that has a bad effect on his cognancy. In other words, his staff thinks it's better to keep Trump under raps ~ as best they can ~ hoping for a clear day or two to trot him out when he's lucid.

#42 | Posted by Twinpac at 2024-10-19 04:10 PM

But he ain't Biden. Not by a long shot.

#31 | Posted by BellRinger

Biden is still far more intelligent than Trump. IMO what you're seeing in Biden is most likely Parkinson's, and NOT dementia. But Biden was right to not continue running.

I am seeing it. He is in cognitive decline.

Then he certainly shouldn't be POTUS for four more years.

#43 | Posted by Whatsleft at 2024-10-19 04:31 PM

Are we really asking why the Republicans don't hold themselves to their own standards?

With a straight face?

#44 | Posted by jpw at 2024-10-19 08:34 PM

Trump's ascension is even more dangerous to ignore.

Trump is too dangerous to ignore since 20 years ago.

#46 | Posted by ichiro at 2024-10-20 02:10 AM

Remember the Trump White House pharmacy was a bonanza for dispensing enormous quantities of controlled stimulant and recreational drugs on the tax payers dime. Trump's mental instability is made worse with his heavy drug use. He was on drugs with the Kamala debate judging from his dialated pupils and probably takes a lot of uppers to stay awake. Unfortunately there are only so many Cocaine/Ritalin/Adderall cocktails you can take before it all comes crashing down.

#47 | Posted by AlternateFacts at 2024-10-20 02:13 AM

This is hilarious.. You clowns literally watched Biden stumble and bumble his way through 3 and 1/2 years. -------- his pants, falling up stairs, falling down stairs, falling on stages, falling off bicycles and shaking hands with ghosts were all completely fine with you. You have no credibility.

What a riot.

If you were outraged at Biden's mental issues you should be three times outraged about Trump's.

The man is on television being as sexually inappropriate as anyone gets when they reach significant dementia.

If Trump is elected he'll be president for what? Six whole months?

You're denial of reality goes far beyond mere hackery. JD Vance isn't going to permit that drooling old man to be president.

#49 | POSTED BY LFTHNDTHRDS

No worries. You'll be ok.

Trumpy can't even remember what city he is in anymore.

"Our whole country will end up being like Detroit" if Kamala Harris is elected, Donald Trump said, seemingly unaware that he was in Detroit at the time.

#52 | Posted by donnerboy at 2024-10-20 11:33 AM

"He called himself the father IVF,'" Obama said during a rally in battleground Arizona. "I do not know what that means. You do not either. He said January 6th was a day of love.' You would be worried if your grandpa was acting like this."

Classic Obama.
