MAGA Bracing for Catastrophic Cuts

Rawstory writes about a Kentucky school superintendent who voted for Donald Trump but is hoping the President elect doesn't carry out his plan to cut funding to schools which he say would be "catastrophic" for his schools.

Imagine voting for a felon in the hopes that he won't do exactly what he promised to do. "Tom Gambrel, the superintendent of Bell County, Kentucky schools ... cast his vote for Trump ... told CNN that he hopes the president-elect doesn't carry through with his plan to cut federal education funding".

Educators and families in areas where Donald Trump's "America First" seemed to resonate the most could be hit with "catastrophic" cuts. Tom Gambrel, the superintendent of Bell County, Kentucky, schools, joined most of his neighbors and cast his vote for Trump with his students in mind, but he told CNN that he hopes the president-elect doesn't carry through with his plan to cut federal education funding. "I don't think that anyone in our county wants to cut our school funding," Gambrel said, "and I don't think that anyone voted for that."

What a -------.

They voted for a cult leader.

They didn't vote for the burgeoning oligarchy.

But the burgeoning oligarchy is what they now have to deal with.

How utterly ------- stupid this guy is.

He has no business running a lemonade stand let alone a school system.

I don't think that anyone in our county wants to cut our school funding,

If public schools lose all their funding for a billionaire to get a $5 tax cut they would gleefully do it.

They don't give a ---- about you.

They don't give a ---- about your kids.

No sympathy. This is the world this man wanted.

He's nothing but an educator, anyway. MAGA wants him gone.

"I don't think that anyone voted for that"

Definitely got the "I don't think" part right.

Americans voted for strife and misery, and that's what they'll get for voting for the "We hate America" party.

They'd rather fund stopping the 10 transgender students a year from participating in sports programs than fund education everyone.

Right, no one is going to cut school funding, the funding that hopefully should get cut is the Dept of Education's top heavy bureaucracy and send the rest of the funds to the states to use it the best way they see fit. That is the goal and the right thing to do.

education FOR everyone

No, they want to stop the federal government from ordering schools to build special bathrooms for the 10 transgender students.

"Surely the leopards won't eat MY face!!!" I said as I cast my vote for the Leopards Eating Faces Party.

"I don't think that anyone voted for that"

Of course they didn't. They voted for funding cuts in blue states and to keep the money flowing to red states.

Claim by an ignorant Trumper: " ... no one is going to cut school funding ... "

Reality:

House Republicans' Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies bill provides $198.4 billion, a cut of $24.6 billion " 11 percent " below 2024. The legislation: Decimates support for children in K-12 elementary schools, furthering Republicans' goal of eliminating public education.

Nov 13, 2023 " The House Republican budget also proposes cutting funding for student aid administration by 13 percent"or nearly $265 million.

"I don't think that anyone voted for that"

How dense is this person?

Just like the idiots that googled "How do I change my vote" and "What is a tariff" the day AFTER the election.

Idiots.

Idiots all around.

Just like the woman on tv crying when her husband was deported in 2017 because he was here illegally AFTER SHE VOTED for Felon47. "I didn't think he would deport my husband!"

The stupid in these people burns.

Schadenfreude may well be the only thing that gets many of us through the next four years with our sanity intact.

No, they want to stop the federal government from ordering schools to build special bathrooms

No they don't stupid. They want to cut spending to allow for more tax cuts for the .01%.

Faux Nooze just tells you that -------- and you fall for it.

#18 | Posted by Nixon at 2025-01-17 01:37 PM

"I don't think that anyone in our county wants to cut our school funding," Gambrel said, "and I don't think that anyone voted for that."

These idiots have no idea what they voted for despite being told constantly exactly what they voted for.

FishPawn does a fantastic job of displaying the ignorance of the Republican voter.

#22 | Posted by THEBULL at 2025-01-17 05:52 PM

What a fustercluck.

Elon's analysis (such as it isn't) suggested 80% of the problem was interest on the debt.

His reaction: "We'll have to cut Social Security!"

So he can keep his tax cuts.

Musk's answer is to keep slashing revenue. Meaning even more would have to go to servicing the debt.

#23 | Posted by Danforth at 2025-01-17 05:58 PM

Trump voters keep hoping that Trump won't actually do the things that they voted for him to do.

#24 | Posted by johnny_hotsauce at 2025-01-17 07:04 PM

That's what the lying media has the rubes believing Johnny -------

#25 | Posted by THEBULL at 2025-01-17 09:10 PM

From what I'm reading it's going to be far worse than program cuts.

The 95% is going to be made into revenue stream for the government to make sure the 5% get their cuts. Multiple tax deductions are on the chopping block. Mortgage interest deduction. Student loan interest deduction. Scholarships and stipend to be taxed as income. Hospitals taxed as for profit entities while they gut the ACA. SALT will have a hard cap. An across the board 10% tariff.

Ever policy on the wishlists from the GOP that I've seen these last few days are going to make life harder and more expensive for the majority so that tax cuts can be renewed and more passed for the rich.

Oh, and national park lands will be opened for destruction by timber, mining and energy cos while much of it is simply sold off.

Half of Cali is under Federal control. Imagine how much debt could be paid off selling that land to private developers. A new gold rush.

Imagine how much debt could be paid off selling that land to private developers.

F&^% that.

I want there to be beautiful, untouched places for my children to see.

We don't need a small cadre of people getting even more ridiculously wealthy at that expense.

#28 | Posted by jpw at 2025-01-18 10:09 PM

The Feds control over half the state. How many acres do your kids need?

#29 | Posted by visitor_ at 2025-01-18 11:23 PM

Your kids probably don't want to pay off all that debt either.

Which is precisely why we should be taxing churches instead of hospitals.

As usual, the right has the wrong idea to fix a real problem.

#31 | Posted by jpw at 2025-01-18 11:56 PM

How would you feel about taxing all non-profits?

#32 | Posted by visitor_ at 2025-01-19 12:38 AM

#32 Great question.

I'm curious to see what his answer is, assuming he provides an answer.

My best guess is that Gambrel has invested in the privatization scheme.

Betting against community interests is apparently commonplace among those with means.
