This Year I Want to be More Like Jesus:

- Hang out with sinners

- Upset 'religious' people

- Tell stories that make people think

- Chose unpopular friends

"So, You Say You Want To Be Like Jesus - Are You Sure?

Rev Ed Trevors

I'm an Anglican Priest in the Diocese of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island (my pronouns are he/him/his) and I get to serve in the Parish of St Margaret of Scotland, in the beautiful city of Halifax, NS, that sits on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi'kmaq people."

Being more like Jesus would entirely disrupt MAGA.

They're not going to take it; never did and never will.

It should be obvious that, if someone wants to be more like Jesus, they are going to have to help subvert some public policy.

"More like Jesus" can be ambiguous in meaning. If someone's goal is to "be like Jesus" in the sense of seeking perfection or authority, it could indeed border on arrogance.

If the goal is to emulate virtues such as love, humility, and forgiveness rather than equating oneself with God, that is worthwhile.

However, love, forgiveness, and humility aren't necessarily exclusive to Christianity, as many faiths express those virtues. Even the heathen might believe in these human qualities.

Personally, I think that if you want a goal as a Christian, it should be pursuing a path of spiritual growth and a deepening trust in God.

To be "more like Jesus" means believing that without Him you cannot truly achieve spiritual fulfillment.

It's not just about adopting virtues or certain behaviors, but about surrendering to His grace and growing in faith.

The goal isn't self-improvement in a worldly sense, but a transformation that comes from reliance on Him and finding that your true strength comes not from your own efforts but through a relationship with Jesus Christ.

- To be "more like Jesus"

Would be to be less like Donald Trump.... who perfectly matches the descriptions in the bible of the Antichrist, whether he is or not.

Corky,

Trump?

Really?

#7 | Posted by BillJohnson at 2025-01-19 04:20 PM

Really.

A person who is the epitome of evil, according to your bible.

#8 | Posted by Corky at 2025-01-19 04:55 PM

BillJohnson belongs to the cult of MAGA. He's too far gone to reason with. Sad to say.

#9 | Posted by LauraMohr at 2025-01-19 05:07 PM

"Trump? Really?"

The guy who breaks over half the Commandments on a regular basis?!?

Really.

But prove me wrong: name three Commandments Trump FOLLOWS.

The 7 deadly sins are what Trump calls the days of the week.

Pride Envy Anger Sloth Greed Gluttony Lust.

OK, Bill Johnson vs Robson in a preliminary cage match dumb-off...Who's dumber?

The winner of the battle will go on to face Msgt in the 'Dumber than Aflak' competition.

Faith without works is dead, dead, dead.

MAGA isn't Christian. But it is a cult.

#14 | Posted by Zed at 2025-01-19 06:17 PM

Zed,

Ephesians 2:8-9

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith"and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God" not by works, so that no one can boast."

You really can't cherry pick verses to take out of context and establish an entire belief system from a single verse.

Context matters.

I realise that is commonly done even by the faithful.

Such are the frailties of man.

While good deeds don't earn salvation, they are a natural outcome of it.

Matthew 25:31-45 says that you're wrong. Just sayin

"While good deeds don't earn salvation, they are a natural outcome of it."

If acknowledging JC is the integral puzzle piece, does that mean everyone who passed before 30 AD is burning in hell for all eternity?

#17 | Posted by Danforth at 2025-01-19 09:33 PM

In the NT the dead are all in a place called Paradise awaiting the slightly judgey part.

Psalms 103:14
"For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust."

(he occasionally stuttereth)

Dan,

Don't expect me to know any answers to the questions that have ripped churches apart for centuries who can't even agree among themselves.

Just like everyone else I have mostly questions.

I mean...such as...after I retired a few months ago my wife and I planned a cruise we are leaving in 2 weeks.

And today I fell and hurt my back I can barely stand up straight and in great pain.

Ain't life a hoot?

#19 | Posted by BillJohnson at 2025-01-19 10:45 PM

" Don't expect me to know any answers to the questions"

Except you've already gone off about the requirements for salvation. Do you retract what you posted?

Because according to your requirements, everyone born before 30 A.D. must be burning in hell. And God must have created those creatures, knowing that outcome.

By the way, sorry to hear about your back injury. Here's hoping for a full and fast recovery, before the cruise.

Dan,

No...there are basic tenets of Christianity that make it Christianity.

I'm done...

#21 | Posted by BillJohnson at 2025-01-19 11:15 PM

Dan,

And oddly enough there are churches and individuals who consider themselves Christian but don't teach or believe those tenets.

They're really no different than any other "be nice to people" church or "the spirit of Jesus wants you to love all people and God loves you unconditionally"

It they don't believe in the basic tenets, I think they are mistaken calling themselves Christian.

#22 | Posted by BillJohnson at 2025-01-19 11:20 PM

" there are basic tenets of Christianity that make it Christianity."

But if Christianity is required for entrance to heaven, that would mean everyone who died before Christ turned 30 is burning in hell.

Isn't that part of the basic tenants?!?

If belief in Jesus as Savior is required, none of those folks did it.

Do you worship a God who created all those millions of souls, knowing they were all doomed for eternal hellfire?

#23 | Posted by Danforth at 2025-01-19 11:28 PM

I think anyone that buys a bible from the antichrist is mistaken in calling themselves a Christian.
