Heritage Foundation reports on 'America's family crisis'

The Heritage Foundation, a conservative policy group that was involved in the development of the Republican agenda for the second Trump presidency, Project 2025, published a report on Jan. 8 aimed at reshaping U.S. family policy.

"I think probably a group like Heritage Foundation is looking at what the Trump administration has implemented over just the very short first year of this second term, and how much of it maps on specifically to what was laid out in Project 2025, and probably thinking that this sort of a blueprint model is actually a good mechanism for getting things adopted by the people currently holding power in both the federal government and in lots of state governments," she said.

Waters said: "There are very few people who are going to fall into what this report considers to be a good family. I have said previously on this most august site a conversation I had with an in-law over a Thanksgiving dinner.

It was back before MAGA was even MAGA. But he told me that women should not be allowed to work, that they should stay at home, pregnant and working in the kitchen to feed their husbands when they came home from work.

Since it was a Thanksgiving dinner, I let that comment go and asked him to please pass the yams ...

But, wow.

Trump, for example, didn't get those things, and doesn't provide them for his children, and that's why Republicans identify with him on such a fundamental, personal basis.

What is the minimal salary for a man to support a mortgage, two vehicles and 3 children? What income bracket would they have to be in to be comfortable?
Probably applies to less than 15%.
Keep in mind, that Project 25 and the Heritage Foundation would strip away all social supports.

Is it a new mortgage?
How much downpayment?
Where is the property?
When you say "support", implies the owner has owned it for sometime, how much time? (interest rate).

But a affordability index might help answer ...

Private equity's interests seem to be two-fold ...

1) mid-term increase of asset value (zillow has my house with an 80% price increase since late 2019).

2) long-term investment income (does this type of income get preferential tax treatment?)

By buying up the available single-family homes, private equity reduces the supply, thereby fostering the situation for a price increase of the remaining houses.

And the monthly rental income is just what they wanted.

What the Heritage Foundation wants is now economically impossible in the USA. Maybe, it could work among the top 3%. But most families need both husband and wife working full time. And the cost of child daycare alone is about $1500 a month per child.

When the bride and I met 30 years ago, we'd go out to a nice dinner about once a week. For a while, I worried we were being extravagant, until I discovered clients of mine were spending three times that amount per kid on child care.
