I guess this is as good a day as any to remember the time Kris Kristofferson absolutely bodied Toby Keith.

He then saw Kristofferson and quipped, "None of that lefty ---- out there tonight, Kris" - a reference to Kristofferson's left-leaning political views.

"What the f-k did you just say to me?" Kristofferson replied.

"You ever worn your country's uniform?"

"You heard the question, you just don't like the answer," Kristofferson continued.

"Have you ever served your country? The answer is, no, you have not. Have you ever killed another man? Huh? Have you ever taken another man's life and then cashed the check
your country gave you for doing it? No, you have not. So shut the f-k up!"

Whether the conflict happened or not between the two it is interesting Kristofferson was in the army (Captain, Ranger, Helicopter pilot) and the super patriot worked in the oil fields.
Keith claims it was all made up.

I wonder if I would recognize the big Toby Keith hits. I'm guessing they sound as boring as every other New Country hit.

"But bite that even in death his music will continue to outsell any/all of the Chicks music"

I'm sure his continued marketability to a horde of Trumpy-Bear owning rednecks is a soothing salve that will help his grieving family members rest easier.

'I wonder if I would recognize the big Toby Keith hits. I'm guessing they sound as boring as every other New Country hit."

All you need to do is go to a gas station and listen to the gas-pump radio channel. Whatever you hear, it is likely either Toby Keith or someone nearly as redundant and cliche.

Not to disparage the country music of Hank Williams, however

(for all of you country music lovers out there, "disparage" means to put down)

I heard his headstone was going to read "How do you like me now?"

I don't know who Keith voted for but I suspect it wasn't Trump if he even voted at all in 16 & 20. Keith was cagey about his personal politics. He was a registered democrat for most of his life. He had some good things to say about Bill Clinton and Obama. I also know that he had some strong criticisms of both Hillary and Trump in the lead up to the 2016 election. He played inauguration events for W, Obama and Trump. When asked about why he played at Trump's when so many other artists refused he said it had nothing to do with his feelings about Trump but was because he felt that when a President asks you to serve your country then you serve your country.

'Through his annual charity event the Toby Keith & Friends Golf Classic, Keith raised in excess of $15 million for the OK Kids Korral over the past two decades. "It's probably my greatest accomplishment," he told The Oklahoman in 2019.7 hours ago'

My what a terrible person he was, right?

Bill Cosby and Harvey Weinstein gave millions to charity as well.

Toby Keith was a willing shill for the Bush administration (and the MIC in general) and the only reason he was so popular was because he sold his soul to parrot war propaganda and pandered to the barely-educated, jingoist underbelly of current American culture.

Too bad he got cancer and died, however. I would have rather seen Dubya get it before him. Cheney too. But then again, are those two even human?

#3, you left out the best line from that story. "That man is doing to Country music what pantyhose did to finger -------!"

#9, a great line from King of the Hill, "Bobby, Hank Williams is the greatest Country music singer of all time. Hank Williams Jr. ruined Monday Night Football."

All together, I'm glad that ------- died of a very painful and slow form of cancer.

The man was an artist. He was. And the world is almost always a lesser place when a dedicated artist passes on.
