Glad to see this. Seeing as she bought the gun for him, knew he was nuts, was at school that morning and chose to do absolutely nothing makes her an accomplice.

Good. Hopefully this breaks wide open a willingness to prosecute firearm negligence.

He's in the on deck circle right now.

It's about time they hold irresponsible parents that ignore warning signs and still provide children with assault weapons.

Let the irresponsible and incapable weed themselves out.

I'd much rather prefer they'd weed them out before they acquire the weapons to take innocents with them.

"School officials had called the Crumbley parents to the school the morning of the shooting after finding violent drawings he had done on a school assignment. He was also caught searching online for bullets at school, watching shooting videos in class and drawing violent images on several other papers.

School officials testified that the parents chose not to take their son home despite the school telling them to get him immediate help, and offering them facilities that provided same-day mental health care services.

The parents told the school they could not take him home because they both had to return to work and that if he left school he would walk home and be alone. School officials, who were worried about his mental health, did not think it was a good idea for him to be alone since they were concerned he was considering suicide."

So, the school officials were so worried about the kid they had a drop everything and get parents in immediately meeting, find out the parents were indifferent about the situation and did..... nothing.

Why aren't the school officials being charged with negligence? If they were so concerned that the child needed immediate help, why did they not take that step? They could have called the police for a hospitalization. Given what has been described it seems the child could/should have been hospitalized involuntarily.

Then there is this:

"Smith also argued that in Oxford, where the shooting happened, it is common for students to go hunting with guns. A school official testified that many seniors take prom portraits with their guns and that they often need to be reminded not to come to school with their guns during hunting season."

Nothing discussed about the impact of a bunch of children cosplaying with real weapons of war on this tragedy.

The glorification of a weapon that kills thousands of innocent lives every year is a disgusting reality that is perpetuated by elected officials who fondle their AR-15 pins and TAKE ------- CHRISTMAS CARD PHOTOS WITH THEM.

This nation is ------.

Unfortunately that "weeding out" often involves someone being maimed or killed by a gun. I don't think we can allow gun violence to resolve itself naturally; unfortunately the five partisan lawyers who rewrote the 2nd Amendment disagree with me.

While it's true she was criminally negligent and should be held accountable she is also a victim of our foolish gun culture where deadly weapons are treated like toys.

I hunted when I was in high school. Heck half the boys and a few girls took off at least opening day of Dear gun season to hunt - with "responsible" adults. They make Oxford sound lime some wood tick school like I went to. It isn't. It is just north (5-10 minutes?) of the continuous homes and businesses of the Detroit Metro area. Oxford Community School district has 10 schools and 5,910 students. That is about 455 kids per class. My school district was about 1400 and we were still not even truly THAT rural. We were 20 minutes from metro area of a city of 100k - but next to a State and Federal Game and refuge area of 20,000 acres.

Nobody took their hunting guns to school. They needed to be with an adult - unless they were 18 - to possess a gun and hunt. So it would be illegal in the first place. Not many kids would be 18 during hunting season either. I am about as early a date you could have for turning 18 - without failing a grade. Hunting season was over when I turned 18.

That said I would like to see said senior pics with hunting guns. Nobody did that in my day and that says something about our de-evolution. I bet they are ARs and not hunting guns too.

Emmett Till's mother and Jet magazine proved back in the 50s how much of an effect horrific pictures can have on the country.

#28 | Posted by qcp at 2024-02-07 02:57 PM | Reply

The other thing, hunting is WAY down. It has declined 1/3 since 2012 - when it was already in steep decline. Total sales of deer licenses was about 586k in 2022. That includes people purchasing multiple licenses. Most deer hunters buy at least 2 "buck tags" and then you can buy "doe tags" on top of it. I say most because literally every deer hunter I know buys at least the 2 buck tags.

Kids just don't have any interest in hunting. Boomers are aging out. There are also a lot of people like me that just don't anymore.

They don't, though.
They don't need to be responsible.
That's the whole problem.
The right to bear arms is for everyone!

Even the most irresponsible owners take advantage of the right to bear arms. These senseless murders are what happens as a result of that policy. A policy you support with every fiber of your being.
