Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Saturday, May 18, 2024

The former president is in the historically reliable blue state Friday evening to headline the Minnesota GOP's annual Lincoln Reagan fundraising dinner. He began his speech with the usual jabs at Biden's cognitive ability, but also referenced the recently agreed to debates between the two. "He's going to be so jacked up for those, you watch," Trump joked, later saying he was going to "demand a drug test" for Biden before the debate

1) There's nothing honest about Trump, or you.

2) Donald tests first, given the rumors of stimulant use that have swirled around him for years.

3) What you idiots saw at the last State of the Union was Joe Biden as he is. I'm sorry that his competence violated the latest puerile, self-serving fantasy you concocted.

Zed ... . Mid day Biden is comatose and falling asleep. He speaks incoherent sentences and trails off. Half the time he doesn't know where he is. His "call out" video was spliced 5 ways from Sunday (yes it was actually 5 cuts to utter 51 words).

Trump has every right to make him submit to a drug test or he should walk. You know deep down they inject him with God knows what to make him appear alert and still with it but he's not.

Should Mr. Adderall be tested as well?

Or, per usual, does this requirement hinge on the letter after the name?

Why would anyone complain about an international businessman with a highly diversified portfolio having a lot of LLCs? Your comment is just plain stupid. Biden's family - which is not actually in business and has not discernible product to sell other than selling US foreign policy - is rightly criticized. Your attempt at equivalence here is laughable and you know better - so, it it reflect very badly on your character.

LMAO!

Trump's way of chickening out of the Debates.

And remember his MO... always accuse the other guy of what you are guilty of.

"One reason my mind went in that direction is that Trump has repeatedly accused rival presidential candidates of using "performance-enhancing drugs," as if the election were a professional sports competition that you can cheat at by juicing. He made this indictment against Hillary Clinton in 2016 and against Joe Biden in both 2020 and 2024.

Trump is almost a textbook embodiment of the psychological process of projection. He rarely hurls an accusation that is not also a confession, as when he accuses his foes of being corrupt, dishonest or racist.

Given this pattern, Trump's habit of making up allegations of substance abuse is worth flagging as, at the very least, suspicious."

The article goes on to document the gifting of various drugs to Trump ineligible WH staff.

If you'll notice, every time people want to try to pin something on Joe Biden they will blame "Biden's family".

And you can always guarantee it means two things: Number one, they have nothing on Joe directly, otherwise they would name Joe directly.

Number two: It's the type of thing if a Republican did it, they'd be garnering praise. Witness Clod for proof.

Oh, I dunno know now.

There seems to be a whole new issue on the table here.

Trump Camp Says Lengthy Pause During NRA Speech Was For Dramatic Effect'
www.mediaite.com

... Former President Donald Trump stood silently for more than 30 seconds during his speech at the National Rifle Association Convention Saturday as dramatic music swelled behind him.

Trump was more than an hour into his speech and was praising the state of Texas, where the convention was being held:

Many came here with nothing but the boots or their feet, the clothes on their back, and the gun in their saddle. Together they helped make America into the single greatest nation in the history of the world.

Trump then stopped talking and appeared to shake his head.

Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung told Mediaite, "It was clearly a strong dramatic effect, which has occurred previously because when any American reflects upon the disastrous Biden presidency, they can't help but be concerned about the direction of the country."

After about 33 seconds, Trump picked right up where he left off, saying, "But now, we are a nation in decline." ...

OK, I asked my search engine of choice about "Trump pauses."

Results...

www.seattletimes.com

Presidential fluency (2017)
languagelog.ldc.upenn.edu

... In a number of posts about Donald Trump's rhetorical style, I've noted how seldom he uses filled pauses such as UM and UH in spontaneous speech, compared to other public figures. For example, in "The narrow end of the funnel" (8/18/2016), I noted that filled pauses were 8.2% of Steve Bannon's words (in a sample passage from a panel discussion on The Future of Conservatism), and 4.0% of Hilary Clinton's words in a Vox interview, while three of Trump's unscripted rally speeches had between 0% and 0.05% filled pauses, and in a CNBC interview, Trump used 74 filled pauses in 5329 words, for a rate of 1.4%.

Like many others, I've noted how often Trump abandons a discourse thread in mid-phrase, sometimes returning to it after a digression, and sometimes just forging ahead with new themes. (See e.g. "The em-dash candidate" (8/15/2016) and "Disfluencies and smiles" (9/30/2016).) And I've certainly also noted his fondness for phrasal repetitions, sometimes literal and sometimes transformed or paraphrased, which is one of the factors leading to his low rate of vocabulary display. (See "Donald Trump's repetitive rhetoric" (12/5/2015), "Trump's rhetorical style" (12/26/2015), "Vocabulary display in the CNN debate" (9/18/2015), "Political vocabulary display" (9/10/2015), and "More political text analytics" (4/15/2016).) ...

Whoa, interesting article.

But moving on....

So, it seems to me that the spokesperson for fmr Pres Trump is making an assertion for which there may be no substantiation.

Please correct me (with links) if I am incorrect in my opinion.

thx.
