International Criminal Court (ICC): The ICC prosecutor outlined alleged war crimes by Hamas leaders and Israeli leaders. ICC is seeking the arrests of Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant for alleged war crimes including starvation of civilians as a method of warfare, intentionally directing attacks against a civilian population and cruel treatment. The ICC prosecutor is seeking the arrest of three Hamas leaders, including Yahya Sinwar, for alleged war crimes including taking hostages, rape and other acts of sexual violence and cruel treatment.

Seems valid to me. Two wrongs don't make a right. Put them all in jail. The actions on both sides are indefensible.

Anyone familiar with how likely these are to be enforced? There's been an ICC warrant against Putin for 14 months so it doesn't seem like this is an actual thing that matters.

#2 | Posted by JOE at 2024-05-20 10:45 AM | Reply | Newsworthy 1

If one of them flies to a country that is a signatory to the ICC they will be arrested. It's why Putin didn't go to South Africa like he wanted to last year.

Putin was meant to be at a summit in South Africa this week. Why was he asked to stay away?

How does the ICC carry out these arrests? What law enforcement agency goes after them? How far does their jurisdiction cover?

Just curious.

Perhaps they could add this one to the list for violent insurrection and intended hostile takeover in an attempt to start a Civil War...

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Monday ripped what he called the "outrageous decision" of the International Criminal Court's (ICC) prosecutor to seek arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

"This outrageous decision is truly a slap in the face to the independent judiciary of Israel, which is renowned for their independence," Graham said in a statement, vowing to push for sanctions against the ICC."

First ... this is just an application and still has to be approved by the court.

Second ... member states have a responsibility and obligation to support the ICC by being signatories to the Geneva convention.

They don't. The ICC court issues a warrant. It's enforced by member states under the Rome Statue.

Neither Israel nor Qatar are members.

It wasn't to establish who was president in 2001, Einstein. Go back and read the context.

Anyway, heres the real reason

"The bill had triggered a threat from Saudi Arabia to pull billions of dollars from the U.S. economy if it was enacted. But Saudi Foreign Minister Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir denied in May that the kingdom made any threats over the bill. He said his country had warned that investor confidence in the U.S. would shrink if the bill became law."

Re 33

While an actual arrest may never happen arrest warrants would still have an effect.

The court's 124 member states would be under a legal obligation to arrest such officials if they traveled to any of those 124 countries.

Nutty Yahoo has already raged against it so there is already that pressure to respond to the possibility.

Biden is at his worst when he shifts into pure political mode. IMO he usually does a good job playing it down. But calling the ICC accusations of Netanyahu "outrageous" is pure political ass kissing by Biden and after all his thin veiled denunciations of Netanyahu over the past weeks, we all know it!

I don't do the nooner and I don't call what's going on in the nooner "politics".

Haven't even looked for a while but as I recall it was more akin to troll raging. Or agitprop whiners.

Agitprop synonyms- emotional disinformation, hype, indoctrination, brainwashing doctrine, evangelism, hogwash, implantation, inculcation, newspeak promotion, promulgation, proselytism.

I called it here weeks ago when I posted a thread about warrants for Netanyahu.

Some idiot said Hamas should get warrants, too. I assured them that they would.

I also pointed out that the next move for the liberals on the site who love the mulching of brown babies and hope it continues long into the future would be to say that everything would be great if it wasn't for Netanyahu.

I'm glad to see that's happening, too.

The liberals in the US government will all be saying it soon enough.
