This cohort study of 94,720 recorded infant deaths in Texas and 28 comparison states found that the Texas abortion ban was associated with unexpected increases in infant and neonatal mortality in 2022. These findings suggest that abortion restrictions may have negative spillover effects on infant health.

Texas Abortion Ban Linked to Rise in Infant Deaths

... These findings suggest that abortion restrictions may have negative spillover effects on infant health. ...

That is a minimal concern vs the GOP's new, and increasing, control over women.

Between 2021, when the ban went into effect, and 2022, the study found infant deaths in Texas jumped from 1,985 to 2,240 - a 12.9% increase. The rest of the country, meanwhile, only saw a 1.8% increase. Similar data was observed in neonatal babies in their first 28 days of life.

Many of those deaths were due to congenital abnormalities in the infants, one of the myriad reasons patients may choose to terminate a pregnancy, especially later into term. In 2022, the study found that infant deaths attributable to that cause saw a 22.9% increase, compared to 3.1% for the rest of the country.

"Although replication and further analyses are needed to understand the mechanisms behind these findings, the results suggest that restrictive abortion policies may have important unintended consequences in terms of trauma to families and medical cost as a result of increases in infant mortality," the study authors from Johns Hopkins and Michigan State University wrote.

Let's repeat the most salient line again for those deluded into believing the left supports selective abortion up until the minute of birth:
Many of those deaths were due to congenital abnormalities in the infants, one of the ... reasons patients may choose to terminate a pregnancy, especially later into term.
Traumas to families and increased medical costs are also byproducts of the ban which takes medical decisions out of the hands of families and their doctors - where they belong.

Reminder
The FACTS are that since the passage of Dobbs:
1. The rate of abortions have increased.
2. The hazards of being pregnant have increased.
3. The cost and effort to obtain an abortion have increased.
4. The impact of the "states deciding the issue" has impacted states that do not choose to restrict abortion-thus abortion restricting states are causing de facto abortion restrictions in enlightened states.
5. The number of women choosing to get pregnant has declined.
6. Women choosing to take permanent measures (tubes tied) to prevent pregnancy has increased.

We can add

7. An increase in infant mortality.

Congratulations Republicans, you built that

BTW pregnancy is soon to get even deadlier with the EMTALA case

and

the -------- states are coming for blue state abortions since they are pissed their residents leave to get an abortion in non--------- states

OK, when I see such assertions, one of the first things I tend to do is look for substantiation. If I cannot find substantion, I raise a challenge.

So, for the first item I quoted above, I found this...

Despite Bans, Number of Abortions in the United States Increased in 2023 (March 2024)
www.guttmacher.org

... Updated on May 10, 2024

New findings from the Monthly Abortion Provision Study show that an estimated 1,037,000 abortions occurred in the formal health care system in 2023, the first full calendar year after the US Supreme Court's decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization overturned Roe v. Wade. This represents a rate of 15.9 abortions per 1,000 women of reproductive age,* and is a 11% increase since 2020, the last year for which comprehensive estimates are available. It is also the highest number and rate measured in the United States in over a decade.

This increase demonstrates that people continue to seek and obtain abortion care despite the drastic reduction in abortion access in many states. Since the Dobbs decision, in 2022, 14 states have banned abortion with limited exceptions. In addition, seven states"Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Nebraska, North Carolina, South Carolina and Utah"have implemented laws that restrict abortion access on the basis of gestational duration. While access has decreased dramatically in states with bans, almost all other states have experienced substantial increases in the number of abortions provided. As a result, the United States continues to face a fractured abortion landscape, with access varying widely based on where people live and what resources they have. ...

I never said you did.

Indeed, I have found quite the opposite to be true.

Regardless, I do here and there, look to substantiate what you (and others) post.

And, I will say, I have never discovered that what you post was wrong.

From my #6

... If I cannot find substantiation, I raise a challenge. ...

How many of such challenges have i raised to you?

My current view is: zero.

And, there is a reason for that.

The GQP abortion ban is not pro life.

It's to control women.

Control your women or lose your society and eventually your species. We're in the Find Out stage right now.

"Control your women or lose your society"

They do not think of women as equals. They have never thought of women as equals. It is not possible for them to think of women as equals.

"and eventually your species."

No surprise here, they don't think the other races are the same species as Whites.

Here's a take that you may not see there in bumpersticker world:

-Woman refuse to be controlled. They want to pursue career during their limited fertile years. They
want to have sex but don't want children 'right now'. If they end up pregnant anyway, they insist on being allowed to destroy the ramification of their nonreproductive sex adventures.

-Birth rate plummets. Men drop out; the tall men with good jobs are passed around and end up cynical, the majority of men are ignored and end up cynics as well.

-Nation turns to immigration to supply replacement population, as economy cannot function without sufficient number of taxpayers.

-Immigrant population, from woman-controlling cultures, attain political and economic majority. From their ranks new leadership emerges.

-New leadership enacts policies to control women.

New leadership?
You mean: Men

Men enact policies to control women.

Overturning Roe is how so many state legislatures have enacted policies to control women.

The Texas law allows abortion if the mother is in danger.

I read the law instead of paying attention to leftist-dogma KLAN liars.

--"A physician may proceed with performing an abortion once a "fetal heartbeat" is detected only if they believe a medical emergency exists."

--Section 171.205

but please all of you carry on with whatever you call this.

Maybe you should pay attention to what's actually happening in Texas rather than what a bunch of fascist liars wrote into law.

The best advice I can give to any women who finds themselves pregnant in Texas is this:

1) Keep it a secret.

2) Move out of the state.

My advice to any pregnant person who is considering travelling to Texas (or any -------- state).

Do not go.

Do not put yourself at risk of death if you have a pregnancy related emergency.

Do not put yourself in a state that will deny you lifesaving care.

"The Texas law allows abortion if the mother is in danger."

They literally just changed that, four days ago!

Also, it's a significantly higher threshold than "in danger."

The legal requirement is:
(3) "Medical emergency" means a life-threatening physical condition aggravated by, caused by,
or arising from a pregnancy that, as certified by a physician, places the woman in danger of death
or a serious risk of substantial impairment of a major bodily function unless an abortion is
performed. This definition is found at Chapter 171, Section 171.002(3) of the Texas Health and
Safety Code.
(4) "Major bodily function" includes but is not limited to, functions of the immune system, normal
cell growth, digestive, bowel, bladder, neurological, brain, respiratory, circulatory, endocrine, and
reproductive functions. This definition is found at Chapter 21, Section 21.002(11-a) of the Texas
Labor Code.

"The anti-abortion project is the core engine of a brazen attempt by one religious clique that constitutes about a third of the population to impose their hardline faith-based beliefs on everyone else. Outside of the religious right who opposes abortion rights? Nontheists against women's full reproductive rights are as scarce as hen's teeth."

Republicans don't care about life.

They care about control.

Anti Abortion laws are specifically designed to control women.

That's what this all boils down to.

Making sure women realize their rights are meaningless.

That they are meaningless.
