Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Tuesday, June 25, 2024

Michael Whatley, the current chair of the Republican National Committee, appeared on Fox News late last week to summarize what he sees as the foundational question of the 2024 presidential race: "The American voters are going to go vote based on whether they are better off today than they were four years ago." Four years ago, thousands of Americans were dying each day of Covid-19; more than 20 million Americans were unemployed; also, the country was in the grip of a violent crime wave, with murders soaring.

After all, four years ago, thousands of Americans were dying each day of Covid-19. Soaring deaths aside, four years ago more than 20 million Americans were unemployed; Trump left office with the worst job record of any president since Herbert Hoover. Also, the country was in the grip of a violent crime wave, with murders soaring. Today, by contrast, we've just experienced the longest stretch of unemployment below 4 percent since the 1960s, and the violent crime wave - Trump didn't cause it, but it did happen on his watch - has been rapidly receding.

- Paul Krugman

The nation's uninsured rate improved under Biden. The supply-chain challenges improved under Biden. The cost of many prescription drugs improved under Biden. Infrastructure investments improved under Biden. The budget deficit improved under Biden. The U.S. murder rate improved under Biden.

The United States' global standing improved dramatically after Biden replaced Trump in the White House.

Well, since MAGA thinks that they live on Earth II, they invent their own reality so they can cling to their victimhood status of blaming the more successful for their own abject and humiliating failure.

Trump left office with the worst job record of any president since Herbert Hoover.

Unlike dotard, Hoover didn't snuff out 1.2 million Americans.

Four years ago we were burying people in mass graves, storing dead bodies in refrigerated trucks and wiping our asses with coffee filters.

Anyone that thinks we were better off then than now should be sterilized.

Italy was taking elderly patients off of respirators to suffocate in order to have enough for the younger people who still had a chance at being saved.

I lost four friends who choked to death on their own body fluids due to COVID.

with murders soaring.

The hyperbole is tiring. Not everything is soaring, or skyrocketing or a bombshell or blah blah blah.

www.statista.com

There was a steady rise over the last half of the 2010s that peaked during the pandemic.

All are well below historical murder rates.

then why so worried about trump, in the face of these evidently indisputable facts

is it the media at fault? are you worried the dems can't rally enough votes in key districts?

or is it the homeless...migrants in Chi NYC...the optics on the border...grocery prices

Because our government is rigged to give massive undemocratic advantages to the republican party.

Dems have to win over 60% of the votes to hold 50% of the power. In some states its even worse than that. And the senate makes it so that the dakotas have twice the power of california despite california having over ten times their population.

This is why trump won power. He didn't even get the most votes. He lost. But under a perverted skewed democracy he becomes the winner.

I understand the violent crime rate is down and the stockmarket is doing muuuuuuuch better.

We also don't have an airborne virus rampaging across the country.

" Are You Better Off Than 4 Years Ago?"

Financially? Not even close. But I don't blame government for it.

In Whatley's view Der Dotard help manage the US population, culling out the weak, infirm, old, those with criminal tendencies, and random folks who were not paying enough in taxes. In his view all those concert-goers in Las Vegas killed by a rampaging shooter deserved to die and the US is better for it. Or something like that...

And, once again, we have someone who wants one state to control the federal government. Our election system is designed so that all states are equal because, just because one state has more people doesn't mean their lifestyle should dictate the lifestyle of any other. This is exactly what Hunger Games was about. For people like you, farmers and blue collar workers should be oppressed because their lifestyle doesn't match your privileged, entitled lifestyle. Anyone with that mentality is already unAmerican regardless of any other actions.

Translation: we have to have a rigged system where YOU dictate how others live, otherwise we'd have a fair system where others dictate how you live.

Translation: "Why hasn't Biden magically fixed Trump's mess already? Waah!"

Jobs added to the US by President:

George H.W. Bush: 2.6 million
Bill Clinton: 22.7 million
George W. Bush: 0.5 million
Obama: 11.5 million
Trump: -2.6 million (that's negative)
Biden: 15 million and counting

"We break it and get pissed when you don't magically fix it fast enough."
-Republican Motto

Why?

Because he managed to eek thru a massive tax cut for the wealthy while failing to accomplish anything else substantial to help the American people?

Convicted Felon Trumpy couldn't even repeal and replace Obamacare with Nothing like he promised you he would.

"George W. Bush: 0.5 million"

George W. Bush would have negative job growth, if Republicans hadn't massively grown the government.

By massively grown I mean the biggest expansion of government jobs since LBJ.

Many Maga's are not. Much of the country has
very close margins to a livable budget. But
it is hardly the President's fault. The President
has done what he can (capped insulin prices to $35 a dose,
when it was in the $100's, wrote of 100's of millions in
student loan debt, etc...) to a leave the stress on people,
but has been out-matched by the greed of the millionaires
and billionaires and corporate and consumer price hikes.

The President doesn't control that. I suggest aiming your
anger in the right direction...

Haven't been denied toilet paper

I get to work from home
I don't have to commute
Kids safe and doing well
We have a president who isn't a convicted egomaniacal douche bag felon

Definitely on the up
