President Biden said he had a "short but good conversation" with former President Trump after Saturday's attempted assassination and has asked for an independent review of security at the rally where it occurred. "Jill and I are keeping him and his family in our prayers," Biden said. The president plans to address the nation Sunday night at 8 p.m. Eastern.

Sadly Trump won't cool it down. He lacks the ability for circumspection. He'll double down on his violent rhetoric and will emboldened his followers to acts of violence against his enemies.

Biden's address was an appropriate call to unity. He and Trump both lived through the 1960s when JFK, RFK and MLK were all gunned down. Leaders must do everything they can to condemn political violence and rhetoric that openly encourages it.

Biden was clearly referring to reporting and focussing on -------- lies, policies, authoritarianism, mental and moral unfitness for the office. He said this at a fundraiser, hardly a place to incite violence, it was poor word choice.
