The Republican vice-presidential nominee and Ohio senator was raised nominally evangelical, then dabbled with atheism before converting in 2019.

I don't know if evangelicals/charismatics or "Catholics" scare me more today. So MANY of the Catholics are not the Catholics I was raised among.

I was raised in a home with a father who didn't believe in organized religion and a Catholic mother. On my father's side it came from his Grandfather's generation. They left what is now Czechia and turned their back on organized religion because of just what we are seeing today in their homeland back then - the un-Chrisianity of it and manipulation of people. That doesn't mean he didn't believe because he did. My mother has been a believer in the Catholic religion and I was raised in and turned my back on it prior to confirmation. I was a teen and I could see what was wrong with the "church". I seen how people were treated and what was taught was just wrong and clearly in contrast to what was preached in the bible. I myself have no use for organized religion and have said since that point religion is about manipulation and power and not any virtue.

That said, it's nice to see a Pope who is doing at least some good even though he is being forced from time to time to take a milder stance vs what he has said. People like Vance no doubt don't "agree" with the Pope's position on most things though. They are "hardliner" nut jobs who are all about the authoritarianism but won't accept true Christian values in the church.

No reason to believe JD Vance's conversion is anything other than a calculated political act that is no different from him acting like he suddenly likes Trump and cops and hates trans people.

JayDee, current spokesman for the He-Man Womun Haters Club (apologies to Spanky, Alfalfa, and Buckwheat), should feel downright at home in the Catholic Church.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if J Dunce Vance converted to Catholicism in order to join Opus Dei.

Another tidbit about this "stable genius II":

JD Vance went from thinking he was gay and changing his name twice to becoming an anti-LGBTQ+ extremist.

Does he or has he ever beat his wife? That... is a more prescient question relative to his agenda.

Kind of ironic that he kisses the ring of the least Christian candidate who routinely violates just about all of the ten commandments.

He is the worst type of politician...someone who is a blatant opportunist willing to abandon every belief or position he has in order to be the flavor of the month.

Just like the orange pedophile.

Most of the time, when the phone rings ... :you take the call and take the opportunity

But Vance is young. He will get more opportunities. He could have passed on this.

People do that crap when they fear going to hell for their behavior. It's a way of buying indulgences... the roots are deep in Medieval Catholicism. It's the ticket guaranteeing a seat next to Jaysus on the way to heaven.

Honestly, I don't understand the need to defend an "almighty" god.

A return to monarchism is one of the hot "new" ideas among the Catholic neo-traditionalists.

Trump, after Laura Ingraham offered him an off ramp, restated to the so-called Christians, "you won't have to vote again" then uttered this utterly head-shaking pronouncement, even though our current president is a devout Catholic!:

"He added that Catholics are "treated very badly by this administration" and that "they're like persecuted," then digressed, saying that Jewish people who voted for Democrats "should have your head examined," a sentiment he has expressed many times before, drawing criticism of antisemitism. He then reiterated his statement from Friday."

How anyone can support this moron with no moral values whatsoever, same as his "Trump's America's Hitler to "I love the man" running mate, who changes positions depending on who whispered in his ear last, is beyond comprehension.

I find it weird that the MAGA crowd thinks Diamond Joe is some sort of godless heathen despite his weekly attendance at Catholic mass, while the criminal orange deity spends his free time praying that his golf ball gets over a water hazard, and curses the heavens when it doesn't.

As for the VP nominee, I doubt he ever attended mass at a Jesuit-run church in Ohio (e.g., St. Xavier and Bellarmine Chapel in Cincinnati, or St. Ignatius in Cleveland). If he had, the bearded one would have heard a message of being a man for others, faith in God and works for one's fellow man, feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, housing the homeless and welcoming the stranger. I think Catholics everywhere hold Vance at arm's length until he shows he lives God's word...

They've attacked John Kerry, Nancy Pelosi, etc over the years while defending Newt Gingrich, and other similar types.

100% hypocrisy

But many of them support Trump and just please don't try to tell us Trump"lives God's word." or for that matter that the Republican Party does.

The Catholic vote has been split fairly evenly in recent presidential elections. Someone can check that but I think that's accurate.
