Trump responded by saying that Biles only recently became black and went on to say that she is a DEI hire.

I have been waiting for years for the moment when, as happened to Ignatius Reilly in A Confederacy of Dunces, Trump realizes everyone is laughing at him because he pissed his pants during a science lab accident.

Bravo. So few people have read "A Confederacy of Dunces."

As ineloquently as he said it do people not realize what he meant?

There has been plenty of discussion of the unemployment rate for the black community and what it was under Trump and what it has been under Obama and Biden.

He should have said something more along the line of the influx across the border is negatively affecting the unemployment rate in the black community. It's not what he said, but I also think there is a lot of unnecessary backlash over it.

Just another reason we need better candidates... A President should be able to articulate themselves properly.

White or white adjacent Lumpers want to claim "black jobs" are being in the Olympics, or vice president of the United States.

While black Americans struggle living in poverty and low wages.

It may make you feel better, but being sarcastic isn't going to win hearts, minds, and votes

Everyone knows what Trump meant

This sort of silly showmanship is just to make Lumpers feel better about themselves.

Unable to argue policies and their affect on the minority communities.

"seemingly"

Bwahaha. She smoked that old demented fool.

Just another DEI hire obviously.

Unable to argue policies and their affect on the minority communities.

That would be Trump's weakness, not the media's. While it's certainly true that the influx of immigrants into larger cities does stress programs geared toward helping lower income folks, let's not forget the hundreds of thousands of these migrants forcibly bussed into sanctuary cities by GOP governors.

But the dog whistle Trump blew was heard loud and clear because the vast majority of ALL American workers outside of a few select fields face zero threat of any undocumented migrant taking their job away because the vast majority of American employers follow the law and demand proof of citizenship before they hire anyone. I work in such a job, as does every other black person that I personally know. None of us has ever worried about an immigrant taking our jobs away mainly because few if any would have the experience necessary to provide anywhere near the productivity we do.

I get where Trump was coming from, but his point was still a dogwhistle to whites that "black jobs" are different than theirs, and by unsaid inference, inferior to "white jobs." When asked what a "black job" is, his answer was simply any job held by a black person. He said this out of his own mouth and THIS is why Simon Biles and other prominent blacks are responding with the term "black job." This is to signify that no immigrant is a threat to what they do for a living and it's most insulting for anyone to casually lob such an ignorant snide remark.

By Trump's own definition, he took over a black job, which lasted only 4 years and then he was fired. And now that same job may likely become another black job, and an Indian job, and a woman's job when he loses a presidential total vote for the third time. Maybe an undocumented immigrant would do a better job than Trump is able to. Perhaps he should be worried about that too.

While true, I can worry outside of my own circle, and I can also acknowledge that ultimately we are all in the same boat. So when we have an influx of individuals that will flood the lower rungs of the job market that is going to hit the poorest among us regardless. This then affects wages and so on and so on.

I think you are underestimating how the border will ultimately play at the polls

Definitely meant to mock Trump and it's definitely a work of comedy genius

The record low for African American unemployment rate is 4.8% set under Biden which is a half a percent lower than the lowest recorded point under Trump. Black poverty rate has also reached a record low under Biden. It was 17.1% in 2022, the most recent year for which data is available. It's lowest point under Trump was 18.8% in 2019.

The fact is that Biden's economy has been the most successful financial period in US history for black families.

@#16 ... So when we have an influx of individuals that will flood the lower rungs of the job market ...

That influx is hired by companies that choose them over Americans.

The influx is not taking jobs from Americans, companies are actively choosing to give those jobs to the influx of individuals instead of giving them to Americans.

#19 not arguing what the facts are, just how I think what Trump meant and how it's been used is not disingenuous

I think how it has been used is disingenuous.

Blaming the immigrants for the hiring choices being made by companies only leads to the wrong solution to the problem.

What specifically did Trump mean? Because facts don't support what your comment implied that he meant.

#23 | Posted by johnny_hotsauce at 2024-08-04 12:14 AM | Reply

I had an unintended NOT in there but I think you still got what I meant.

I don't think that Trump thinks there are "Black Jobs" but that a weak border policy leads to a situation where the unemployment picture for low wage earners is not good. It's a fair assumption that in that category there are black workers.
