Federal emergency response personnel on Saturday had employees operating in hard-hit Rutherford County, N.C., stop working and move to a different area because of concerns over "armed militia" threatening government workers in the region, according to an email sent to federal agencies helping with response in the state.

FTA:

Around 1 p.m. Saturday, an official with the U.S. Forest Service, which is supporting recovery efforts after Hurricane Helene along with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, sent an urgent message to numerous federal agencies warning that "FEMA has advised all federal responders Rutherford County, NC, to stand down and evacuate the county immediately. The message stated that National Guard troops had come across x2 trucks of armed militia saying there were out hunting FEMA.'" "The IMTs [incident management teams] have been notified and are coordinating the evacuation of all assigned personnel in that county," the email added. Two federal officials confirmed the authenticity of the email, though it was unclear whether the quoted threat was seen as credible. The National Guard referred questions to FEMA when asked about the incident. One Forest Service official coordinating the Helene recovery said responders moved to a "safe area" and at least some work in that area--which included clearing trees off dozens of damaged and blocked roads to help search-and-rescue crews, as well as groups delivering supplies--was paused.

They're just "casually armed". Nothing to worry about.

If you are wondering why some of the people in the Lake Lurie/Chimney Rock area are reacting this way, take a look at this video of the sheriffs in the area and wonder no more:

A message from the Sheriff Wright and Sheriff Ellenburg in North Carolina regarding FEMA and the aftermath Hurricane Helen- we spent the day in Chimney Rock and Lake Lure and the devastation is unbelievable--but the people of NC have pulled together--truly amazing mountain people.

"It's terrible because a lot of these folks who need assistance are refusing it because they believe the stuff people are saying about FEMA and the government," Duncan said. "And it's sad because they are probably the ones who need the help the most."

Pointing and laughing might help.

As I lay in the rack this morning, slowly crossing that invisible checkpoint one reaches moving from sleep to being awake, a small voice whispered to me, in my right ear, soft and sweet. "Slugfest's time has well and truly come," George Carlin cooed.

Olivia Troye, a former national security adviser to Mike Pence, spoke out about threats against the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) by armed militias.

In a social media post on Monday, Troye pointed to reports that FEMA agents were forced to relocate due to threats while providing hurricane relief in North Carolina.

"This is an alarming moment for [the] country," the former Pence adviser wrote. "FEMA's life-saving disaster recovery efforts in North Carolina were disrupted due to threats against federal workers by militias, forcing aid to be paused in hard-hit areas."

More from the article in #19...

... North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper's office spoke on the safety concerns in a statement on Monday:

"FEMA along with other state, federal and local response workers are working around the clock to bring assistance to western North Carolina.

We are aware of significant misinformation online and reports of threats to response workers on the ground and the safety of responders must be taken seriously.

The Governor has directed the Department of Public Safety to identify with local law enforcement the specific threats and rumors and coordinate with FEMA and other partners to ensure safety and security as this recovery effort continues."

From that x post in @2 the woman is whining about FEMA not giving out $ while Sherriff one tooth is telling FEMA to stay away.

That was quite an "interview". Takeaways:

1) FEMA stay away and just give the money to Ukraine, who wants to kill "us".
2) Shoutout to President Lewzer
3) Shoutout to Elon Musk
4) Looters will be shot on sight
5) Donate money ONLY to Samaritan's Purse, which is:

...an evangelical Christian humanitarian aid organization that provides aid to people in physical need as a key part of its Christian missionary work. The organization's president is Franklin Graham, son of Christian evangelist Billy Graham.
Well, good luck to you.

The North Carolina National Guard told CBS News in a statement on Monday that it had "no reports of our soldiers or airmen encountering any armed militia, any threats and any type of combatants. We are continuing to serve all those counties in need of our assistance."

"The initial report stated there was a truck load of militia that was involved," the sheriff's office said. "However, after further investigation, it was determined Parsons acted alone and there were no truck loads of militia going to Lake Lure."

@#25

Yeah, I saw similar reports today that the "trucks of militia" could not be confirmed.

However, given the dire situation that the good people of western North Carolina are facing, I have to ask a simple question ...

Why is the GOP apparently so against FEMA trying to help those who suffer from this disaster?

#26 | Posted by LampLighter at 2024-10-14 10:23 PM | Reply

In the announcement of Parsons' arrest, Keever said, "It was determined Parsons acted alone and there were no truck loads of militia going to Lake Lure."

It's not "not confirmed". It's "Never existed in the first place."

Now this dude will walk when it's determined it was just sarcasm and he's an idiot.
