Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

... The transformation of the FBI back into a J. Edgar Hoover-style domestic spy service with sweeping political ambition has been a long-developing story, obscured by a political anomaly. In the first phase of this nightmare, between 2001 and 2016, the post-9/11 Bureau used the pretext of an enhanced counterintelligence mandate to throw off some mild restraints that had been placed on it the last time it had to be slapped down, i.e. after the Church Committee hearings in the 1970s. The second phase of its transformation took place after the election of Donald Trump, when the Bureau remade itself on the fly as a kind of government-in-exile, empowered by an outpouring of public and media support to view itself as a counterweight to the Trump government.

Here's what will happen after the FBI is "disrupted". There will be a major and successful terrorist attack on the United States with mass casualties. After which Donald and Kash will disclaim all responsibility and loudly proclaim their genius.

Look for dead pools regarding the month and day of that terrorist attack. Look for Donald to pull a George W. and state "no one could have imagined".

Read the article, Zed. It traces the current problems to the Patriot act. Also, look to history, Zed. Google: the Church commission of you aren't already familiar with it.

10 seconds of reading this piece of ---- brought me the following observation:

Quote from pos:

"Each step moved the Bureau further away from the mission of developing evidence for court and more in the direction of gathering information for its own sake, while pursuing extrajudicial remedies to "contain" or "disrupt" undesirable "conduct." "

Wow, that sounds pretty darn bad, like damning, right.

BUT

What the quoted words are from is the following:

An email to field offices regarding counterterrorism (presumably directed at an ISIS like organization given the timeframe-subject IS redacted).

"4. Does the FBI have a strategy to disrupt any plans to commit acts of violence or other criminal conduct associated with the subject and terrorist organization?"

The author seemingly has a problem with the FBI attempting to disrupt terrorist violence in America, you know through investigations and arrests-that sort of thing.

Why did the author feel the need to completely misrepresent the intention of the FBI's statement?

The Church Commission findings will have little value when the next American skyscraper comes down.

Your head is where your morals live, up your ass.

Some people forget that the FBI is world wide and protects US interests on the international stage.

So ... NOW you are concerned about the Patriot Act signed into law by George Bush in 2001?

Yeah. Too late.

It's amazing to watch "progressives" be incurious staunch and vociferous defenders of an agency the likes of the FBI without a hint of skepticism toward any of its conduct. A complete reversal from the Bush years.

Of course, it's one of Jeffy's favorite garbage sources.

It's amazing how quickly you've become a fan of government corruption and abuse.

Bell, to many here, everything is a trap. Everything is suspicious and everything is skeptical.

And why not? There's no consequences for their skepticism to be later clearly described as an overreaction.

Repeated and obvious doomsday scenarios can always be used as a defense for someone's attitude.

If the author is being unfair to the FBI, and that's certainly worth pointing out, then so be it. It's all fair game.

I'm skeptical as well.

Racket News, lol.

Matt Tiabbi is the equivalent to Seymour Hersh in journalism and Johnny Boy Turley in legal journalism.... people who can only make money by writing hot takes that push against what most writers are reporting, no matter what that is.

It's a profitable, if sadly dubious niche.

This Pre-K foresees a major terrorist attach directly due to Donald's laziness and cupidity. But you're right. Anyone, anyone at all, can see the shopping basket running downhill and into traffic.

I'm sure that we'll have minute-to-minute replays of the new mass incineration on the anniversary date for the next decade.

I'm sure that Donald will find a way to monetize that.

4 years difference. Not "at the time"

Don't think that he actually managed to trash both the FBI and CIA last time.

It's what he needs and wants this time.

National security is never enhanced by unilateral disarmament.

When MAGA were still real Americans, they knew that.

This really isn't a partisan issue.

It's 100% a partisan issue.

One party wants to disband the largest law enforcement threat to their corruption based on said agency doing their job.

All because they're so in the bag for their boy they'd prefer corruption and abuse of power over stability and order.

#38 | Posted by jpw at 2024-12-04 11:01 AM | Reply | Newsworthy 2

" It's 100% a partisan issue."

I get that partisanship is attached to the FBI but that's not what I'm talking about nor is it what the writer of the linked article is talking about.

Really?

If it's not a partisan issue then why are we even talking about replacing the head of the FBI at all?

Christopher Wray's 10 year term of office is not up until 2027.
