Mr Cook is trying to continue to make a profit.

Pres Trump's tariffs would cripple Apple, so Mr Cook basically had no choice.

Back when then [candidate] Trump started talking about tariffs, I noted that he would likely use them to reward those who kiss his ring (though I might have said "ample derriere" instead of ring, but I digress).

That seems to be happening.

"could help it avoid new tariffs on goods imported from China."

So there's a way to duck the tariffs? An out?
That's not letting the market decide, that's picking winners and losers!
(And yes, I realize that's what Trump voters voted for, even if they don't.)

@#4 ... That's not letting the market decide, that's picking winners and losers! ...

Yup.

But what is the selection criterion for that picking?

Nah it's like the NFL changing the rules of the game.

Teams are still independent to play the game according to the new rules.

Solyndra investment was picking winners and losers

So... acknowledging that the US is now a controlled marketplace, like the NFL, and not a free-market as Capitalism says?

Swap tariff with "outsourcing tax" and it's a Bernie Sanders idea.

Biden's IRA put Americans in more debt.

Its a careful balance.

Any company can duck tariffs. In what way is having regulations picking winners and losers?

Again, its like changing the rules of the game, not the players reaction to the changes.

You really should brush up on your logic, first Streaming = Broadcasting and now this. You've been gone for a time, I'll cut you some slack.

#11 | POSTED BY SITZKRIEG

The Outsourcing Prevention Act would "impose a tax on all companies that outsource jobs." The proposed tax would be equal to "the amount of savings achieved by outsourcing jobs or 35 percent of its profits, whichever is higher."

Its close, but IMO it gives incentives to companies to NOT report profits. OR spin if off in subsidiary, its all shell game.

Not at all you still don't understand the metaphor. That's your malfunction.

A Free market still has rules, contracts, taxes etc, its not Yemen. Companies can choose which rules benefit them and act accordingly.

My final point will be you seem to think "one regulation" and its NOT a free market, "free markets" exist along a continuum.

You're clueless. Why do you think big oil doesn't report profits, they aren't be malfeasance, there's no incentive too. FFS

Whats to enforce? Clearly you don't understand accounting. Its not malfeasance, to spend/invest your revenue and avoid profits.

Do you know the difference between spending and investing?

I do, do you? You clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

How many people were hookedup to the Internet via IRA?

The $42 billion internet program that has connected 0 people.
In 2021, the Biden Administration passed the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which included a provision to give $42.5 billion to the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program to provide under-served and rural areas with internet access. To date, it has connected nobody.

How many EV stations were created by IRA?

Biden's $7.5 billion investment in EV charging has only produced 7 stations in two years

Are EVs even a thing? Did you get your ModelS?

Clearly IRA was just a spending bill.

They don't. Just because you don't know what a subsidy isn't this immigrants fault, and it proves my point.

You and you fellow Lumpers live in a bubble.

Blame your education system.

They give tax breaks, as it does for all R&D, for all companies.

Find me one line item where the US government gave oil companies taxpayer dollars, like it does for agriculture.

During FY 2016"22, most federal subsidies were for renewable energy producers (primarily biofuels, wind, and solar), low-income households, and energy-efficiency improvements. During FY 2016"22, nearly half (46%) of federal energy subsidies were associated with renewable energy, and 35% were associated with energy end uses. Federal support for renewable energy of all types more than doubled, from $7.4 billion in FY 2016 to $15.6 billion in FY 2022. Table A4 shows a more detailed distribution of renewable energy-related federal support, which is further discussed in the Renewable-related subsidy trends section of this Overview. Combined conservation and end-use subsidies increased from $9.0 billion in FY 2016 to $10.1 billion in FY 2022 (Table A3). The largest program of this combined category"the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), administered through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)"slightly decreased its funding from $4.0 billion in FY 2016 to $3.9 billion in FY 2022, with a noteworthy one-year increase to nearly $10.0 .
