Core inflation UNCHANGED from April - which also did not show any increases due to tariffs. When will the 'experts' just admit that they were wrong on tariffs?

From February to the end of May, inflation under Trump has been 0.4% total for the 4 months - this is an annual inflation rate of 1.2%. ALL of the experts have been dead wrong and the Fed is still punishing Trump for Biden's inflation. The report year over year - but that includes 8 months of incompetent Biden policies. Since Trump took over, inflation is almost nonexistent and NO impact has been seen on tariffs. This means that middlemen and suppliers have eaten the costs.

There were ZERO eggs at the supermarket this weekend. ZERO.
The total store inventory was down by a waht appeared to be 25%. Empty shelves and depleted stock for staples like canned tomatoes, beans, etc. were a shock.

I was walking around stunned at what I was seeing. I spent half what I was anticipating, and had to switch up what I was going to make for supper this week,

All that and Trump the idiot actually said 'Eggs have come down 400%". Totally impossible and a blatant lie.

Trump has lost it mentally. He's gone and he's dangerous.

By the way, the big drops that made inflation only a .1% increase?

Gas and Fuel Oil
Cars and Used Vehicles
Apparel

Why? Consumption and sales are tanking in those areas.

Prices went up in most other areas, including food.

As saved up inventory continues to be used up, watch those prices continue to jump.

Hey dummy, you know President TACO slashed his tariffs, right?

Prices are going up on many commodities but not as quickly because of President TACO's cowardice.

I went to the grocery store yesterday. In the specialty cooler, among the $7.49 eight-ounce cheeses from Wisconsin and Vermont, was an imported cheese, clearly subject to tariffs, based on the price:

$27.99.

US consumer prices rise slightly; tariffs seen boosting inflation
www.reuters.com

... Summary

- - - Consumer price index increases 0.1% in May

- - - Foods prices rise 0.3%; but eggs a bit cheaper

- - - CPI advances 2.4% year-on-year

- - - Core CPI gains 0.1%; increases 2.8% year-on-year ...

U.S. consumer prices increased less than expected in May as cheaper gasoline partially offset higher housing costs, but inflation is expected to accelerate in the coming months on the back of the Trump administration's import tariffs.

The report from the Labor Department on Wednesday also showed underlying price pressures muted last month.

Economists say inflation has been slow to respond to President Donald Trump's sweeping tariffs as most retailers are selling merchandise accumulated before the import duties took effect.

Walmart (WMT.N) last month said it would start raising prices in late May and June. Inflation was also being curbed by slower price rises for rents and declining airline fares. The Federal Reserve is expected to keep interest rates unchanged next week, with financial markets growing more optimistic of a resumption in monetary policy easing in September.

"This report is another indicator that, before tariffs and economic uncertainty, we were well on our way to inflation falling back to target and that the main impediment to future progress is tariff-related price increases," said Daniel Hornung, a senior fellow at MIT. ...

The only reason the numbers look good is energy went down further on an extended trend. So much so, US output is being reduced.

Demand for gasoline isn't usually seen as a good thing, especially going into a traditionally high demand season.

As usual, s*&ts' analysis is terrible.

@#12 ... They can't, and won't, continue that forever. ...

For the present, major retailers seem to be selling the merchandise they stocked up on before the tariffs took hold, hence the spike in the trade deficit a couple three months ago, retailers imported a lot more than the usual amount of goods.

How long will that extra pre-tariff inventory last before the tariff-based goods start hitting the store shelves en mass?

My guess would be the late June, July time frame.

"...want to bet on the Q2 real GDP growth rate?"

I'm more interested in the Q3 growth rate.

Q2 is still affected by inventories, companies which can only survive in the short term if they can't pass on the increases, and consumers pre-buying before tariffs come out in full force.

The funniest part about all the inflation fear mongering by the Dems is that when it comes to actual inflation - you do live in a different world than the rest of us. Inflation is not even across the US - it is way, way worse on the West Coast and in the Northeast. For this latest report, inflation in LA was 3%, San Diego 3.4% and NYC 3.0%. This is versus the 1.4% for South and Mountain states. And this is as it should be - you keep voting for inflationary policies and inflation hits you harder. You got what you voted for so you should be happy.

No one wants economic pain, but the sorry fact of the matter is that Donald Trump is an incompetent who makes decisions based upon personal ego and emotions.

BAD THINGS have already happened economically (as anyone not a Liar knows) and the story where I live is that people are losing or in fear for their jobs.

Trump is going to have to use physical force for these people to keep quiet.

Which, of course, he is already practicing to do.

@#32 ... of lower energy prices. ...

Yeah, the graph in #38 seems to show the price of gasoline declining during the Biden admin, and then rising once the Trump admin came into power.

With only a very recent decline in price to where the price of gasoline was at the end of the Biden admin.

I remain to be convinced that this is something that the Trump admin should crow about.

Returning the price of gasoline back to where the Biden admin had left it?

But that's just me. :)

At the end of 2024, Biden tried to flood the market with oil by releasing the strategic oil reserve prior to the election which made the US less safe and had a slight impact in lower gas prices. Trump embraces cheap energy policies and the US and OPEC open the flood gates and drive cost decreases via increased supply - the parties are not the same.
