The satirical newspaper The Onion has relaunched Infowars after securing a license to take over the conspiracy-promoting site created by Alex Jones amid an ongoing bankruptcy case. The Onion debuted its new weekly Infowars branded broadcast at 8 p.m. Thursday. The livestreamed premiere featured comedian Tim Heidecker, who has been tapped as creative director.

"We are in charge of Infowars. This is a new dawn, a new era. We are turning the page and we're forgetting the past."

The Onion plans to share some of the revenue from the parody website with the families of the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, CEO Ben Collins told the Associated Press.

Collins said the company will send Sandy Hook families $100,000 from merchandise sales that combine the Infowars brand with The Onion logo in rainbow colors, the outlet reported Thursday. ...
