Nothing good will come of this. I hope people
shine a spotlight on this company and divest from it.

Thanks, Capitalism!

Hate to bust your nostalgic bubble, but Capitalists never gave a crap about you. When you were a child they were dumping toxic waste into the rivers and destroying public transportation so you would buy a car.

I've known that since I was about 14 Nihilist. But my basic point was
EVERY SINGLE CHANGE that the GOP and Supply Siders have introduced since
Reagan, has made this country worse...

Citizens United. Deficit spending tax cuts. Tax cuts predominantly for Corporations and the very wealthy base on the fictional supply side economics of Reanagomics.... for starters.

Right to work.
End of pensions.
Tax-Favoring capital gains over earned income.

okay...I was expecting a response like that. And those are fair answers.

But wealth inequality has gone the same direction on the whole planet.

Doesn't mean we shouldn't work to remedy what we can control here by addressing issues like CU, tax policy, etc.

However, Reagan and the GOP didn't determine tax policy, elections, etc for the whole world.........and yet the whole world is experiencing what we are experiencing.

We exported Crass Crony Capitalism to Russia and China.... but, yeah, they saw the distinct advantages of having an Oligarchy control the economy via controlling the politicians and ran with it.

"But wealth inequality has gone the same direction on the whole planet."

Don't Republicans believe to the very core of their being that America is supposed to be better than the rest of the planet?

Just another lie, I guess.

-We exported Crass Crony Capitalism to Russia and China

right.....those countries weren't developing their cronyism before this country even began.

Reagan taught it to them. Right..makes sense.

And Europe, India, the Middle East.....Reagan. Yeah...

"right.....those countries weren't developing their cronyism before this country even began."

Nixon (R) decided it was good for America to bring them under the umbrella of Western Crony Capitalism so that GE could save money by closing factories here and opening them in China.

Before then, we chose not to do business with China because Communism Bad.

Republicans changed that. Give Republicans some credit, or do you identify as one because you think they're impotent?

Russia learned our crony capitalism from us after the Berlin Wall fell... Thatcher and Reagan were a great help to them, along with our Corporate elite.

Gorby actually wanted to follow the Nordic social democracy model, but the Russian Oligarchs found a KGB agent they thought they could control to create an Reaganite model of the wealthy owning the government, and that's what they did. It's called history.

China already had the Party control over their people, they just needed the ability to compete with cutthroat American capitalists worldwide. They are still werking on that, pretty successfully now.

Are you meaning vaguely (as in increased) or specifically (as in amounts)?

#17 | Posted by jpw at 2024-04-17 12:57 PM | Reply

gone the same direction

He's talking about direction, but not talking about magnitude.

It's a common weasel approach. MadBomber does it every time I say practically all the gains in household income have gone to the top 20%. Apparently, a few crumbs went to the bottom 80% is supposed to mean they technically all experienced gains, so quit yer bitchin.

die on that hill if you want.

A hill where global wealth inequality is the fault of US tax policy.

None of this is really what I wanted to argue.

Earthmuse grew up one day and learned there are bad people in the world and somehow convinced him/herself it started then.

It's a little more complex than that.

But complex (nor context) isn't for everyone.......obviously.

- A hill where global wealth inequality is the fault of US tax policy.

The fault of human greed using crony capitalism that FDR controlled at least somewhat... using US tax policy, among other things.

Actually, inequality does seem to be lower in many of the countries that have a higher level of democratic socialism.

Interesting link. Good find.

"The less inequality/greater equality in Europe is attributed to the fact that Europe has not let its market economy become a market society, where market forces control other areas of society such as education, health, and wages. Examples of this are social healthcare systems and more favorable labor markets."

No, you died on that hill.
Global inequality is your "contribution" to the discussion.
Nobody brought it up until you needed a reason to give Republicans a pass for Reagan's US trickle down economics inequality policy.

their stance on separation of church and state,
their stance on what can and can't be taught in PUBLIC schools,
their stance on prayer in PUBLIC schools,.
their stance on affordable healthcare,
or lack thereof...
