It is the first shareholder lawsuit led by a U.S. state over Target's alleged mismanagement of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) matters.

The state of Florida filed a lawsuit against Target on Thursday, alleging the company defrauded investors by failing to disclose the financial risks of its LGBTQ Pride merchandise line, which sparked conservative boycotts two years ago.

"which sparked conservative boycotts two years ago"

Target is being boycotted by liberals now. Perhaps Cali or NY will sue them next. Keep this trend up! It seems like a great way to damage many large corporations at the root of our problems.

DEI initiatives were put into place to make certain that EVERYONE who is qualified for a job has an equal opportunity to apply for that job. NOT to make certain that stupid white people like Lefty are excluded. But I'm sorry Lefty needs a foot up to find work.

Who knew Trumpy would set out to destroy any company that has had a DEI program and hunt down and destroy every person involved in that program?

Oh yeah. Anyone who bothered to read project 2025.

#1 You spelled EEOC wrong. The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) was established by Congress in 1965 to enforce Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The EEOC's mission is to ensure equality of opportunity by vigorously enforcing federal legislation prohibiting discrimination in employment based on religion, race, sex, color, national origin, age, or disability.

This is hilariously hideously sad to me
Florida holds Target stock in their retirement portfolio.
DeSantis goes on a tear against DEI.
DeSantis demonizes Target.
DeSantis and the GOP target Target.
Florida gets pissed they've lost money on Target stock.
(no!)
What does Florida do?
Continue to own Target stock
Sue Target, but screaming how Target is indoctrinating children into the homosexual and transgender "lifestyle."
This, of course, further depresses Target stock - which WhatsLeft pointed out - is already being hurt by liberals for ending DEI.

The State of Florida is run by a majority of morons. Thank god for the good representation we have for our districts.

Dumbest governor ever.

Our local paper covered this in detail this morning. What a clusterfcck.

#3 - and you missed what DEI does to ensure EEOC is followed and Corporations don't get into lawsuits with the EEOC.

Wrong, but not shocked. It's the opposite.

Re 1&3

Once again. DEI has no effect on job hiring.

DEI programs only come into play and apply to employees AFTER they are hired. To teach them how to work together EFFICIENTLY even though they may be from very different cultural backgrounds.

You still have to qualify for your job on merit to even be involved in DEI.

That, of course, just highlights the absurdity of what Trumpy is doing regarding DEI.

#7 | Posted by donnerboy at 2025-02-22 02:28 PM | Reply | Newsworthy 1

The new Florida Attorney General, James Uthmeier is claiming Target's Pride Month campaign in 2023 promoted a "leftist agenda that sexualized children..." He says that caused Target's stock prices to plummet that harmed the state's retirement fund.

He went on to say "(w)hile the company told investors it would keep the company out of controversy to protect the stock price, the retailer engaged in a marketing campaign targeting and sexualizing children," "You'll remember Target promoted rainbow sports bras for boys and swimsuits with transgender features and books that asked them to question their biological reality."

NOTE: He's lying about sports bras for boys, swimsuits "transgender features" (WTF? Unisex maybe?), and "books that asked them to question their biological reality" - What in the world? The bile this man spews is ridiculous - but hey, we got him and Bondi now in the Fed system. Two maganificent (sic) morons.

Once again. DEI has no effect on job hiring.

I disagree. Who hires? DEI has definitely helped me in interviewing candidates. It's helped me realize unconscious bias and also appreciate differences - which, coincidentally, makes meeting EEOC requirements easier. Almost no thought needed.

DEI programs only come into play and apply to employees AFTER they are hired. To teach them how to work together EFFICIENTLY even though they may be from very different cultural backgrounds.

Yes, and our company uses it to make sure that those hiring understand the value of those cultural backgrounds, and to make sure the candidates are capable of working in our company. I work across multiple continents with many different cultures. When we interview, we have to be aware. We also have continuing education and specific cultural immersion labs - to understand things such as when "yes" actually means "yes" and not just "yes I hear you" or what a head bob means.

One of the benefits to all that is EEOC becomes secondary. The EEOC requirements are likely going to be met, more or less, without much thinking because of DEI. It makes things easier, to be honest.

And yes, then there is the need to ensure that everyone not only gets along, but can view each as a contributor who might, because they think differently, can bring a different perspective and add value in a way not previously seen.

My thoughts for what they're worth - ;-)

Corporations need to avoid stakeholder conflicts and stay out of racism and politics which DEI is all about at its most fundamental level. Corporations have 3 basic interest or stakeholder groups they serve. Customers and society, employees, and shareholders. DEI conflicts with all of them.

Yav. Excellent point. I could have worded that better. The employee does not participate in DEI activities until AFTER they are hired.

And helping supervisors with hiring authority recognize their own unconscious bias is exactly what the program was supposed to accomplish. And exactly the kind of professional behavior Trumpy is trying to root out and eliminate.

Regardless, the beatings WILL continue until morale improves.

You all have a ------- of excuses for Trumpy's illegal behaviors don't you?

In Trumpy's fantasyland you just choose to believe differently.

Got it.

PS. There is no "rule" under which someone who has had DEI training must operate under in order to hire others than to recognize your own internal inherent cultural biases (As Yav clearly pointed out).

On July 7, 1981, Reagan -- who had pledged during his 1980 presidential campaign to appoint the first woman to the Court[39] -- announced he would nominate O'Connor as an associate justice of the Supreme Court to replace the retiring Potter Stewart.
