Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, July 09, 2025

The Department of Veterans Affairs today announced it's on pace to reduce total VA staff by nearly 30,000 employees by the end of fiscal year 2025, eliminating the need for a large-scale reduction-in-force.

Absolutely shameful. Reducing tens of thousands of VA staff will mean longer wait times, fewer services, and less support for the veterans who served and sacrificed for this country.

The Department of Veterans Affairs plans to FIRE 30,000 EMPLOYEES - one-third of whom are Veterans

Why does the------------- hate Veterans?

Cadet Bone Spurs couldn't care less about those "suckers and losers" who work at the VA or veterans who depend on the VA system.

@#4 ... Isn't it crazy Trump enjoys this kind of support from this group? ...

That's from September 2024.

FTFY ...

Maybe a better comment might be: Isn't it crazy Trump enjoyed this kind of support from this group?

Something more recent ...

American Military Veterans Strongly Oppose Trump's Birthday Military Parade and the Firing of VA Workers (June 3, 2025)
www.dataforprogress.org

... A new survey, conducted by Data for Progress and Common Defense, examined adult American military veterans' opinions on various issues and their perceptions of the Trump administration's actions. The survey is representative of adult veterans (those who have served on active duty in the past, other than for training) by age, gender, education, race, branch of service, voter registration, and recalled presidential vote.

Even though veterans are a demographic group consisting largely of men and people over the age of 65, President Donald Trump only has a +4 favorability rating among them, with 51% expressing a favorable opinion of him and 47% expressing an unfavorable opinion. In comparison, veterans are evenly split on Vice President JD Vance (41% favorable, 41% unfavorable). ...

So, from the 61% favorable rating in the old poll you cite, to only a 51% favorable rating in last month's poll.

Is that a good trend?

And also, while you're on that link, take a look at the percentage of Veterans who opposed Pres Trump's cuts to the VA. 49% oppose, 17% somewhat oppose.

There is a lot of anger and frustration at the VA I go to for care. Both staff and service members. Anecdotal, perhaps happening at other facilities as well.
Many of the Veterans working at the VA are in a type of job corps supported position because they do not succeed out in the 'real world.' Many will remain unemployed after they are let go. Housing assistance for Veterans are also being cut so they won't have that to fall back on either.

From what I've been seeing, not limited to the facility you visit.

My question is ... why?

-That's from September 2024.

Point taken but the larger point is to win elections.

Why on earth did veterans support him that much ever?

And he still has 51%.

And what will the GOP nominee have from this group come next election?

60%? More?

Why can't democrats get this group to go their way?

In my view, the point for politicians is not to win elections but to serve those you represent.

In that aspect, Pres Trump seems to be failing.

Been hearing that for 30 years.

I've been going there for 25 years. They had made a lot of improvements, both physical and in staffing. Now the grumbling is much greater than in the past.

Thank you for posting that.

I will say up front, I am not a Veteran.

But that does not mean that I do not want Veterans to receive the best possible care we can provide.

Quite the contrary.

So I have to ask ...

Why has that grumbling increased?

Have things at VA centers deteriorated more?

Our center had flourished. With staffing cuts that have occurred and are threatened morale is poor. The physical won't show signs of the change for awhile, but it is an aging structure that needs constant attention.

From Rudyard Kipling's "Tommy" (1890):
O it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, go away";
But it's "Thank you, Mister Atkins," when the band begins to play
The band begins to play, my boys, the band begins to play,
O it's "Thank you, Mister Atkins," when the band begins to play.
...
For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, wait outside";
But it's "Special train for Atkins" when the trooper's on the tide
The troopship's on the tide, my boys, the troopship's on the tide,
O it's "Special train for Atkins" when the trooper's on the tide.
...
Then it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' Tommy, 'ow's yer soul?"
But it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll
The drums begin to roll, my boys, the drums begin to roll,
O it's "Thin red line of 'eroes," when the drums begin to roll.
...
While it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' Tommy, fall be'ind,"
But it's "Please to walk in front, sir," when there's trouble in the wind
There's trouble in the wind, my boys, there's trouble in the wind,
O it's "Please to walk in front, sir," when there's trouble in the wind.
...
For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' Chuck him out, the brute!"
But it's "Saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot;
An' it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' anything you please;
An' Tommy ain't a bloomin' fool - you bet that Tommy sees!

--------. This is how lies get out.

This is how democrats start just "saying" something and act like it's fact.

This is why Democrats are losing. People hear you say -------- like this and we know you are lying.

I guess I see the democrat line now. Get your voters hooked on benefits and whenever they threaten to vote for someone else, tell them those benefits are being taken, whether it's true or not.

It's kind of sad seeing people like boaz endlessly believe the people in this administration have the slightest care in the world for people like him. Completely ignoring the fact that they are viewed as expendable and merely sources of money and needs.

I get some people will think this and will actually profit from being a shameless sycophant...until they're disposed of as no longer being useful.

But people like Boaz don't profit at all from their sycophancy. At all.

As a vet who used the VA as his main medical resource, I mourn this abuse of veterans for the profit of those looting the treasury. They are also going after Medicaid and Medicaid and food stamps, so all at the bottom of the economic pyramid will be placed in danger of losing vital resources.

They aren't lying. You are.

"The Trump administration said Monday that it expects the Department of Veterans Affairs to lose nearly 30,000 employees by October due to a mix of resignations, early retirements and attrition amid a hiring freeze."

What part of "Hiring Freeze" is that hard for your tiny brain to understand?

If someone leaves, they aren't being replaced. Period. People leave jobs all the time, especially when Trump offers a huge bonus for early retirement. Now they aren't being replaced.

That's a workforce reduction.

You are such a moron.

It's almost as if you can't remember we have an aging veteran population that served in foreign wars in Iraq and Afghanistan for nearly 20 years.

Way more veterans who served overseas are getting older and needing more care than back in 2010.

Biden supported veterans and hired additional staff to take care of them.

Trump thinks their suckers and losers who deserve to suffer. If they wanted to be taken care of, they should have gotten half a billion dollars from mommy and daddy like Donald rather than serving their country in Republican President Bush's wars.

How stupid are you?

#30 | Posted by Sycophant at 2025-07-10 11:14 AM | Reply

It was only just a few years ago that Republicans were attacking Obama for problems at the VA. I guess Biden did such a great job fixing those problems that Republicans feel it is running so efficiently that they can cut staff.
Great job, Joe!
