Where I live, the price of a pizza went up about 33% overnight.

School supplies? Pish-posh. Dinner is what will get MAGA's attention.

As of about 4:00 AM this morning, because stimulant drugs apparently keep you awake at night, Donald Trump was angry because people haven't realized that he brought the price of consumer goods down.

My guess is that many of those scool supplies were ordered and imported before the initial tariffs took place.

Of course, then Pres Trump TACO'd, and reduced the tariffs.

Then he raised them again.

Then he TACO'd and reduced them again.

So, who knows what level of tariffs the school supplies were subject to?

August 1 was a hard deadline for tariff increases.

Until it wasn't.

Because what in a pizza was affected by the tariffs? The crust, the cheese, the sauce? I think all those ingredients are available without tariffs so what was it? I'm guessing you are talking out of your ass again. Or based on your habits of doing bongs, watching spongebob and then ordering Dominos you actually had no idea how much it costs since you used your Mom's credit card to pay for it.

"Because what in a pizza was affected by the tariffs?"

Literally every ingredient in a pizza is subject to tariffs of 20 to 25 percent when imported.

Now, how much of the pizza business is dependent on imports, I couldn't say!

Nearly 60% of companies reported a decrease in gross margins due to tariffs, with roughly a quarter seeing drops greater than 6-10%. International sales are also being hit hard, particularly in China where 83% of companies report reduced sales due to retaliatory tariffs. Nearly a third have seen a 16-25% drop in foreign sales overall, underscoring the wide-reaching impact of current trade tensions. To manage the immediate cost pressure, companies are aggressively leveraging various tariff mitigation strategies, focusing on customs valuation, origin determination, and duty deferment. Many are also engaging in forceful negotiations with suppliers, some of whom are agreeing to share the costs associated with tariffs.

Google where the US imports tomatoes from fishpud.

Where Does America Get Its Tomatoes?
by Lillie NelsonNovember 6, 2022
Mexico is the leading exporter of fresh tomatoes to the United States, followed by Canada. Imports of Mexican tomatoes have had a tremendous impact on the US tomato industry.

Then google "tomatoes left to rot in FL field after ICE raids" fishpud.

moneywise.com
"Can't even afford to pick them': Florida farmers are now plowing over perfectly good tomatoes as Trump tariff policies cause prices to plummet and workers to flee. "

Fishpaw, you're s very smart man. Can you tell us what's expected to happens to prices when demand holds steady while supply goes down due to tariffs?

Willful ignorance is not a symptom of being in a cult; it's a requisite.

#13 - Great post, Nixon. Summarizing the Moneywise reporting:

1) 50% of farm workers are undocumented.
2) Under Trump, ICE and CBP these farm workers aren't showing up to pick the crops.
3) Crops are rotting because there are no workers and because of tariffs.
4) Tariffs caused a 4X increase in shipments from Mexico to the US beating the tariff implementation date.
5) The increase resulted in the price of tomatoes (just one example) from $16 to $3-$4/box. A 400-533% decrease.
6) American farmer's breakeven is $10-$11/box.
7) As a result, it's cheaper to destroy the crops.
8) Another impact example: Mexican watermelon is no longer being imported to the US and is now going to Canada. No Tariffs.
9) American watermelon farmers have no market to sell except within the United States.

A side note: 86% of Americans are suffering anxiety from grocery prices.

The pizza place I am talking about----Their price increase means I'm not likely to by buying from them again. The cheapness was the attraction, not the quality.

By the way, my mother has been dead for a long time.

I won't talk about yours if you won't talk about mine.
