Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Friday, August 29, 2025

The Atlantic: Even the men and women of the National Guard seemed flummoxed, at times, over what exactly they were supposed to be doing in the nation's capital. ... Their mission is ostensibly to stop violent crime, but many here and beyond fear that Washington is being used as a test case--the blueprint for Trump to deploy the National Guard across the country as a paramilitary police force--and that Americans are being conditioned to accept authoritarianism.

Alternate links: Google News | Twitter

There is also the concern that the Guard is not actually making much of a difference. To wit: On Wednesday around 3 p.m.--less than a week after Trump declared on social media that "Washington, D.C. is SAFE AGAIN!"--a woman was stabbed near a major intersection along the city's H Street corridor. Guard members had been passing through the intersection all day, and a trio happened to be finishing lunch on the patio of a taqueria directly across the street when the stabbing happened. Still, the suspect managed to flee.

Why are the guardsmen in DC? Let me make a list:
-pick up trash on the Mall
-keep up business at local Starbucks and chipotle stores
-avoid parading in Southeast DC
-draw pay from their home state governments
-make sure Der Dotard has a woody every time he looks at them

One goal is to normalize Americans just seeing armed military police everywhere they go.

Normalize the Police State.

Libs don't want a Police State so it's designed to traumatize the libs.

76% of Republicans do want a Police State thus it's also designed to give the JeffJs a reason to be proud of their county and support what Trump is doing.

It's hard for me to imagine anybody actually wants that.

The reality is that way too many folks in office and in the media only care about those problems so that they can use them to win the next election in front of them. Thats the significance of the issue to them.

Why? They fight for it every day. People -------- in the streets in SFO, shop keepers can't sho away the -------- without getting arrested.

The reality is that way too many folks in office and in the media only care about those problems so that they can use them to win the next election in front of them.

How? How has this helped "win" elections for those that oppose it? SFO votes FOR these things.

Only if the population as a majority of -------- in the streets would this make ANY sense.

It's Cadet Bone Spur's version of Kim Jung Un's Peter II of Russia's playing with his soldiers.

Mostly, though, Trump wanted homeless people away from where his motorcade passes on the way to his VA golf course.

#16 | Posted by AMERICANUNITY at 2025-08-30 11:38 AM | Reply

The reason these extereme measures are happening is because its been running wild and out of control for so long.

What has to happen to get it back to normal is known as springback compensation.

The longer and more we let people run and avoid simple laws, like car window tint, the hard the response has to be to clean it up.

Broken Window policing isn't just a theory. By taking care of low-level "disorder" offenses, such as, speeding, -------- in streets, public intoxication and urination or fare evasion, police aim to create a sense of order, which reduces more serious crimes.

Oh similar to Newsom when he removed all the homeless, vagrancy and drug tents from SFO when Xi came to visit? Kinda like that?

If we had gun control it would put a damper on all those things.

But your mythology doesn't allow you to have that conversation.

So, what is actually happening here is your own Republican love of guns that any crazy lowlife can own is enabling and catalyzing criminal activity in America.

Homicide rates spiked by 68% from April to July 2020 in a sample of 30 American cities.

Why didn't Trump deploy the National Guard at that time?

People -------- in the streets in SFO, shop keepers can't sho away the -------- without getting arrested.

First SFO is an airport. The homeless are not -------- in the streets at the airport. It's a long walk to the airport and there are plenty of streets to ---- in before they get there.

Second they are -------- in the streets of North Carolina Florida and Texas. It's a national even global problem. You did know that right?

Why do we never hear you complain and whine about that (but obviously do nothing about it either)?

Because you are a lying commie agitator who apparently also claims he is a liberal democrat but apparently who doesn't really give a ---- about liberal or democratic values.

Me too, but when someone actually criticizes Trump wanting to reel it in, I have to question why.

IIRC it was in 1994-1995 when Clinton was in office and New Orleans, LA was given an ultimatum - get a handle on crime or the National Guard will be sent in. I didn't hear one democrat bitching about that.

It's like the 2.whatever % inflation we have at the moment. It's almost like they want the 9.5% back so they can bitch at this administration for something.

Because he didn't actually do it? Or any of the other facist authoritarian things Trumpy is doing.

"It's like the 2.whatever % inflation we have at the moment."

2.9% and rising. It's low hanging fruit because Trumpy literally promised he would "end inflation" in "Day One". And you morons believed him.

Donald Trump promised to "end inflation" and "immediately bring prices down starting on Day One" of his second term.

#15 | Posted by oneironaut

This happens all over the country among the homeless populations. Even in little rural towns, especially when the public bathrooms are chained shut. (At least my little rural city has provided portable bathrooms outside of the closed bathrooms). So I'm curious... Where cities have NOT made such accommodations, where do you think homeless people should --------?

You seem to be full of criticism without solutions.

Homelessness is a global problem.

About thoughts and prayers?

Solve homelessness (or provide facilities for humans to ---- in) and you might make progress in solving the -------- in the street problem. But it is not near as bad as the shooting in the streets problem which we are not even going to talk about (until the next one).

Or you can just whine and lie about Democrat controlled cities and ignore the problems in Republican controlled cities like the Foreign Agitator does. That will work just as well as "thoughts and prayers".
