True story ...
Back in the day, I used to routinely ride along a part of the NY Thruway. When i left my rental abode, and started on the trek, I would put a cassette into the car's player.
One cassette had a curious timing to it.
As it played, a song would eventually appear.
Bad Company - Bad Company (1974) www.youtube.com
Shortly after the time that song appeared, there usually was a State Police radar trap on the NY Thruway. Almost like clockwork.
The things you remember songs for ...
Back then, in my wild youth days, that song may have saved me from receiving a speeding ticket ...

Apologies.

Trump's hidden agenda is to rebuild the White House; he just can't tell anyone his real plans so he starts with knocking down the East Wing. Now he's arguing with the architect about plans for what is to be rebuilt there. He probably wants to include more office space, conference rooms, etc. Then, once that's done, he will announce that he's moving West Wing operations to the new addition and tearing down the West Wing.
He doesn't plan on leaving the presidency.

And on the pedestal these words appear: My name is Ozymandias, king of kings: Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!' Nothing beside remains. Round the decay Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare The lone and level sands stretch far away."
From Percy Bysshe Shelley, Ozymandias

Does anyone get the feeling that, as long as Trump is around, the existence of the White House itself is threatened?
As noted, the proportions for his Golden Ballroom are not in proportion to the residence.
He has in mind a Golden Palace that is.

Trump likes taking hostages. It gives him leverage.

Instead of building a huge ballroom, replace the missing East Wing with a new/modernized East Wing with one exception: incorporate a small incarceration facility. If/when President Trump is sentenced to a prison term, he can be imprisoned in that incarceration facility. That way President Trump can have his wish to remain at the White House! Heck, toss in the gold toilet to sweeten the deal!

What's funny is people think he's planning on leaving the WH in a few years.
This is building his DC Palace and Forever Home.

I'd give his two year survival odds as very, very low. With the strokes and dementia, he's not got much time left.
We absolutely need to demand that presidential candidates for 2028 will demolish any part of this idiotic ballroom that's actually constructed is bulldozed, and ideally any companies or individuals who 'donated' to it are charged with bribery, and hopefully fined enough to rebuild the east wing.

A Taj Mahal to Trump...
Seal it up and Bury him in it.
But first make it the Biggest and most Expensive building in DC. A Spectacle to his Greatness. A Memorial to his Will and Ideas.
Trump's Tomb.
I like the ring of that.

It would not last a year without being desecrated.
Trumpy is the Akhenaten of our day. And will be remembered in a similar fashion.
Later pharaohs, such as Horemheb, sought to erase the Amarna period from history completely by dismantling the Aten temples and removing Akhenaten's name from official records. He was sometimes referred to as "the enemy" or "that criminal".
